Comment:
My First Single Artist Mix Posted here at AotM is a 2 CD Anthology of one of my all time favourite bands Dexys Midnight RunnersI'll happily admit `Come On Eileen' was my fave song as a youngster. I never actually owned it until I picked up a copy of Too-Rye-Aye at a Record fair for about a pound aged 12. I literally played it to death. It was a couple of years later that I finally sought out `Searching For The Young Soul Rebels'. Again it blew me away. And, by the time I'd purchased `Don't Stand Me Down' about 6 months later, I realised they were my band.
While Dexys are generally remembered for the hit commercial singles `Geno' and `Eileen', there's a hell of a lot more to them. Download the links to listen today, tomorrow, next month or next year, it doesn't matter, they're worth having. Two Essential Cds, One Essential Band.
Pt1 Pt2

Feedback:
Cheers Sam, my knowledge is spotty when it comes to these guys so this is a very welcome download. Glad to see a Waltz in there too.
This is tremendous. I did a single-disc version of this last year (or maybe it was 2005), but this puts it to shame.
Precious
I own Rob's comp and listen to it regularly so this'll be a must. They are infectuous aren't they. Micely done.
Actually don't know much beyond "Eileen" ("for we are far too young and clever") but this looks well worth exploring.
<p<
We have a member here who calls himself Wildhearted Outsider, who hasn't been around in a while. Anybody heard from him?

i'm with barry on this one -- my experience with this band is few & far, but i'll dive in & check them out if you give them the thumbs up...
Very nice S.A.M., Sam....
Yup, they were in deed a fabulous unit.
Definitive, mate!
Wow! Wowser! Wowzest!!!
It's like a Rhino (Handmade, mind you) release!!!
I know of your "Dexys" fixation. This mix is probably the ultimate cathartic device. It appears to be more definitive than that definitive thing which was so definitive it actually defined. The term "labour of love" is oft misused and oft merely bandied about in haphazard fashion. However, this mix is the "definitive" labour of love. In fact it's so definitive it's like that definitive thing which.
The 'Gnome has it right sammyg! (as do you!) Looks like a lot of thought went into the tracks.

this is one of my biggest heroes, brilliant even if I thought the offical version of Too-rye-aye isn't the rightone

Sam, This is a band I've been meaning to get the lowdown on for some time. Thanks so much for the links.
Nice one, Sammy. You might keep your eye out for a late period Stiff anthology as I remember a nice rare Dexy's cut on it.
Ah yes, I too had my period of infatuation with Dexy's and the ever change face of Kev. Haven't listened to the for years, so looking forward to this - a superb compilation.
have very much been enjoying my Dexy's Midnight Runners easy-learning-at-home cassettes. it's hard to single out favorites here, but the "Until I Believe In My Soul" BBC session and "My Life In England (pt. 1)" stand out in this brightly-lit crowd. thanks for putting this together and sharing it!
