Cassette Spirit: Me On a Tape

Part of a Valentines Day mixtape exchange, the point was to try and distill my essence down in music form and after much delibeation and careful preparation, I think these - some of my favourite all-time tracks - have successfully accomplished that.

Notes:
-I put together the playlist on computer before dubbing onto tape. I edited each track individually to remove as much silence as possible from the end of tracks or trimmed tracks where I felt it was appropriate. Not only does this make the tape flow better, but it ensures that Side A fits to 45 minutes to the very second.
-I put M.Ward's "Undertaker/Duet" together because for me it's always been one perfect piece.
-I'm not a fan of Radiohead but "Everything In Its Right Place" clicks with me for some reason. I found this live "acoustic" version online.
Hendrix's "(Have You Ever Been to) Electric Ladyland" is a solo instrumental piece available on disc 2 of the boxset "The Jimi Hendrix Experience." (Studio chat edited out).
-The Beatles' "Cry Baby Cry" consists only of the lovely Paul-sung piece at the end, and follows an intentionally left 45 second gap of silence.

Even if you know some or all of the songs, give it a try! Hope you enjoy.

Exceptional first mix, sir! Wonderful selections from the familiar to the rare to the obscure... Extremely fine notes on both the musical and technical aspects of the cassette. Technically what you are doing is easy on PC and CD and hard hard hard on tape...

real nice. some of my favorites here as well. (Pixies, Waits, Wainwright... and that Doors song reminds me of the warm, inebriated karaoke nights of an old relationship.) CDs have a nice body, but cassettes have a soul. welcome to the site.

Love the Boards of Canada before the Beatles. That works so perfectly. Well done!

A great debut indeed. Side two just edges it for me - I love that Doors opener..
