Comment:
My humble addition to the veritable canon (or maybe it's just my perception that there's a canon) of Flamin' Groovies mixes on this site. In my case, I really made a concerted attempt to cover their best originals and leave most of their covers alone (I couldn't, however, pass on "Sometimes" and "Tallahassee Lassie"). These guys were a classic example of the "too-good-for-one-disc-not-quite-great-enough-for-two-discs" type of artist that poses a real mixing issue (Mott the Hoople springs to mind as another key example of this phenomenon), and therefore a lot of songs had to be cut, most notably "I'll Cry Alone," "Golden Clouds," "Good Laugh Mun," "Comin' After Me," "Yeah My Baby," "Sweet Roll Me on Down," "First Plane Home," "Road House" and "High Flyin' Baby." Really, though, are there many songs better than "You Tore Me Down," "Teenage Head," "Shake Some Action" and "Slow Death"? I think not.... Btw, if anyone out there would be kind enough to furnish me with copies of their early '70s versions of "YTMD" and "SSA" and/or the Supersnazz and full Jumpin' in the Night discs, I'd be eternally grateful (and could wind up revising this thing).Feedback:
there's a canon of groovies mixes? sorry i didn't get all those other fg discs to you in time - i've got a ton of others, but disc burning is taking a real backseat these days. good songs here, of course, though so many of my faves are missing, especially the definitive (demo) version of ssa. but ah well. long live the groovies, i say.
not a band i know much about, but i am familiar with who they are. i'd be interested in checking this out if you get around to uploading it anytime soon...
great stuff
canon? heck yeah!!! just groovie, dude...
"Shake Some Action" says it all.
I've had Groovies' Greatest Grooves forever, and it's one of those comps that, when I pull it off the shelf, makes me wish I had all their albums... but I never actually go and pick 'em up. But damn, I should, as an awful lot of these aren't on that disc. I see your point in wanting to stick (largely) to originals, but damn they do some fine covers.
Don't own a single album Rob, please put a copy to the side for when we get round to trading as I'd love to hear this.
Flamin' Essential. Teenage Head is one of My All Time Fave albums. A few tracks on here missing from my collection, so next time we trade....
Hell Yeah!
Groovalicious!
