1937-39, Part I
Comment:
This mix contains tunes numbering ten for 1937, eleven for 1938, and five for 1939. There are two files available for download; a single mp3 file (link on the first song title ) and an mp3 file for each track encased in a zip file (link on second song title).Special thanks go out to Joey deVivre for supplying the song "Lambeth Walk" by Russ Morgan (track 17 on part II of this mix). Also he helped me identify the lead-in singer on a Benny Goodman tune (track 11 on Part III of this mix).
Now for what was in the news for 1937: FDR begins his second term, nylon is patented, The Hindenburg bursts into flames, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco opens to traffic, Japan invades China, the first edition of J.R.R. Tokien's "The Hobbit" is published in London, law to tax marijuana debuts which effectively ends the US hemp industry, Mae West is banned from radio, Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs (the frist feature-length cartoon) opens in theaters and is a smash hit, the first Science Fiction convention occurs in Leeds, UK, the Spanish Civil war enters it's second year (it would last into 1939).

Feedback:
Wow! These are really nice. Thanks for the links.
This (with the other two) will make for a fine weekend's listening. And, a much needed kick back and just enjoy some good tunes time. THANKS!!!
Dynamite swinging good times here!
You know I love this stop on the time machine, but I especially appreciate your attention to audio, as my recordings from this era usually sound like they were recorded under water, scratched onto vinyl & then dragged behind a truck down a dirt road for forty miles. Your recordings are all crystal clear, AND they jump! Many many thanks.

your set was a big hit at work - and no, I'm not employed by a nursing home. my v.1 favorites are "Little Sir Echo," "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down," "What Will I Tell My Heart" and "The Dipsy Doodle," plus it's good to see ole Sophie Tucker on here!
