Comment:
...Well... considering AOTM doesn't allow mixes with fewer than 3 tracks, this is about as minimalist as a mix can get, isn't it?... Words get caught on nettles. Here are three of the greatest extended collections of word (total time 68:32) that have ever drilled their way into my brain. Do I really need to justify Joanna Newsom's presence between two of the consensus greatest poems of the twentieth century? Ys could easily be my favorite album of all time, the only album I've ever heard with as boundless a sense of words and prosody as the most outrT experimental recordings have with musical sound. And has anybody mentioned how incredibly soulful her singing is? Perfect prog-folk for the 21st century.(Note: For this mix I've done some internal editing to the Caedmon version of "The Waste Land", which was suffering from some abrupt cut-offs between the five subsections of the poem.)Feedback:
This looks very, very cool, particularly as the Eliot and Ginsberg pieces are two of my favorite examples of 20th-century literature.
While I did not care for Ys, I know may that do. Like Rob I love track 1 & 3. Excellent work.
I admire you as a mixer. Although I'm not a huge fan of some of the bands you are ( KC for example, having said that I'm only 30 and who knows what the future holds ). But your conviction and sincerity is second to none. I love the JN track, and that is enough for me to go and seek out the other two. Keep up the good work :)
Well I'm in favor of a sendspace upload.
I've not heard Ys but this grouping now makes me want to check it out, which has to be a good recommendation of any mix :)
and now for something completely different ... interesting grouping, I've heard 1 & 2 and have read 3 so I can imagine this would be a fascinating 69 minutes.
very cool & interesting. good friends (w/ good taste) gave me Ys as a Christmas gift, and it was indeed a revelation. must give it a few more spins for it to really sink in.
