Comment:

I recently learned that a good friend is very ill. We've known each other since high school, going back some 25 years. We're in different cities now -- she's up in Portland, I'm down in San Francisco -- and I'm feeling like there's not much I can do to help, other than try to send her some music to play while she's laid up. The challenge being that she's always been mostly an Elton John-Billy Joel kind of gal, and those aren't exactly mainstays of my collection. So I had to kind of look for mainstream-ish, mellow tunes, while trying to steer clear of the overly maudlin. The last thing I wanted was something that felt like the "Music For Chemo" mix. Not sure if this walked the line well enough or not.

Postscript: Had to replace the artwork. I thought the lighthouse photo was quite pretty, until I thought about it a bit and got to wondering why there'd be a lighthouse in Portland. Unless, of course, the photo was from Portland, Maine. D-oh!

Portland is one of my favorite cities. the people are really friendly, there are beautiful churches and parks scattered throughout downtown, and then there's the Virginia Cafe, and of course this place, which is like another city all by itself. I guess what I'm saying is, why not pay this fine town a weekend visit and deliver your lovely-looking mix in person? hope your friend makes a full recovery soon.

This looks very uplifting. Really seems your Big Star opener would set a great tone. The 6-8 stretch is pure warmth. Lots of great pairings.Im sure she will love it!

Well, this is a gorgeous, uplifting-in-a-melancholy-way kind of mix. I hope that it helps your friend maintain an even strain on the path to a full recovery.

Very nice gesture from you. Top choices all over the place. I don't know how your friend's mood is, but the whole situation reminds me of Quasi's Smile. Cheers.
