Comment:

A long-brewing "for-the-hell-of-it" mix dually designed for my friend Anthony (who requested that I track down the uber-slinky, discoteque-friendly Stones cover) and SwankQueen (who wanted to hear the "original"--yes, I know that Rodney Crowell wrote it, but I think Ms. Harris recorded it first--version of "Till I Gain Control Again"). Thanks to Mark P for the Gorillaz track (yes, I know it's not obscure but it has taken me a long time to come around to them) and thanks (again) to the aforementioned 'Queen for hipping me to Andre Williams, the Bongwater catalog, and Holger Czukay's solo work. Although there's an underlying covers thread here, it really wasn't designed that way. If any of you have not yet heard VietNam, I urge you to check out their work ASAP--it's sort of like the earthy end of Royal Trux with more of a Dylan/Neil Young fixation. Title by Mr. Swift, whose new record (Dressed Up for the Letdown) is also quite fine.

That 15 - 19 stretch is kickin'. 3,6 and 8 are also choice.

Also digging the current 'Swift'. Great Bee Gees choice. Infact I love that entire 11-Close stretch.

This looks friggin' GRATE, as usual dude. I kinda dig that Gorillaz->Holger Czukay stretch. And the Soft Cell extended version. You've definitely piqued my interest about VietNam, there. Gotta check them out. Oh yeah, I don't listen to a ton of Portastatic/Superchunk, etc. but I dig that tune a lot. (and it's always cool to see Mac shopping @ WSM).

Exceptional, mate. Some terrific tunes. Bongwater (always fun). Bee Gees (have you picked up the boxed set of their first three albums?). Amy Winehouse (a recent discovery). Soft Cell (was listening to "It's A Mug's Game" today, and was wondering how I could fit it on a mix). Gorillaz (also available in hardback). Oh how I love parenthetical remarks.

Super stuff. I'm also sold on the new Swift, less so on the latest Low though. Classic picks from The Fall, Joy Division, and Buffalo Springfield too.

Excellent once again my friend! Love the Gorillaz -> Emmylou Harris section, the Fall pick and the Bee Gees inclusion is very nicely done. Overall, I approve!

Looks great, as always. I have to admit I haven't heard the VietNam, but will try to rectify this soon.

Uber-slinky is the funniest word I've ever heard! Meanwhile I'm thrilled you've discovered Andre Williams and the solo work of Holghar Zukky. Clearly the Aforementioned Queen continues to have a positive effect on you. However, no one, absolutely no one including YOU should ever, ever, EVER compare any musician to Royal Trux or Neil Young, the two greatest artists in the history of humanity...besides Orchestra Baobab of course. Cheers for the Gorillaz pick.

I heard this today! loved Bacon Fat, the 8-10 stretch, Bongwater, Bee Gees and Portastatic songs the best. nice work. Mr. Swift is playing a show here in Seattle on Monday, and I intend to raise my glass to him in person.
