Comment:

We've seen various compilations like 1 that just include all the big hits, but I really wanted to create a mix that would show how The Beatles really developed when it came to pure rock and roll. From the early days of quietly covering other artists' work to the later days of embracing more raw stuff, I just wanted to put together a nice summary of that side of the band.

Originally I had enough songs for a double album, but I think this list really flows well. I tried to include something from all their studio albums, but for some reason, nothing on Sgt. Pepper really strikes me as being pure rock & roll. It's more like psychedelic pop. So there are no Pepper tracks here. On the other hand, I had tons of selections from the White Album which would have fit on here rather nicely. But ultimately I narrowed it down to just the three here. ("Yer Blues" and "Everybody's Got Something To Hide" were my next favorites, but just didn't make the cut.)

Since I tend to think 1968 was The Beatles' peak year as a more raw-sounding rock and roll band, all the photos for the album cover are from that year. The cover was put together in Photoshop. (Sorry it's so small though. If anyone would like a much more detailed copy of it, just drop me an email at mattdklein@gmail.com and I'll be happy to send it!) Hope you like it, as well as the mix!
