When Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello (see also: Dntel, James Figurine) of the Postal Service delivered their electro-pop debut to Sub Pop, very few people expected it to explode into an actual phenomenon — the label's best-selling album since Nirvana's [i]Bleach[/i]. Come to think of it, though, its songs [i]are[/i] kinda awesome, from the skittering blips and beeps of "Such Great Heights" (later covered in stripped-back versions by Ben Folds and Iron & Wine) to the shimmering synths and minimal, techno-inspired shuffle of "We Will Become Silhouettes." As a bonus to those of you who are truly paying attention, we've included "This Is The Dream of Evan and Chan," an early Tamborello/Gibbard collaboration that's a clear hint of their sweet-and-sour chemistry.
