These days, Death Cab for Cutie is considered one of the leading acts of the post-[i]O.C.[/i]/[i]Garden State[/i] generation — the teens and 20-somethings who were reared on the indie-centric soundtracks of recent years. That's a compliment no matter how you look at it. After all, Death Cab is one of those rare groups that have steadily gained a new audience without alienating fans who have been around since the first 45. And while the Postal Service seemed to threaten Ben Gibbard's fulltime gig at one point, Death Cab's last two major-label albums, [i]Plans[/i] and [i]Narrow Stairs[/i], have brought them to such great heights of their own, including the airy strut of "Soul Meets Body," the sugar-rush hooks of "Long Division," and a couple of blood-letting love songs ("I Will Follow You Into the Dark," "The Ice Is Getting Thinner").
