Comment:
[MIX]. Sad and sad-ish relationship-type songs to comply with my mix trade group's "heartbreaking songs" theme this month. I thought that to make my life easier (due to time constraints) I'd do either all love songs or all death songs. I quickly decided the latter idea would be too depressing to do because my adoptive mom died not so long ago.So here, a shippy mix which sounds part crush mix, part breakup, part romantic, part pathetic, & part funny (to me, anyway!). It has mostly songs that I've always wanted to put in mixes but haven't. And a few that I already have in mixes that have long disappeared. And some dream pop. And twang. And 3 covers. And some over-the-top lyrics for humor. And a lot of time-tested favorite artists who often grace my indie/pop mixes because I've been spending all my emusic credits on other genres.
The title is from the Shins song "Gone for Good" which I originally wanted as the last track, but it didn't flow that well from #19. Despite the absence of that song, I still think that particular line from it fits the overall vibe.
EDIT: This mix got double-posted somehow and when I deleted the double post I unknowingly deleted someone's comment with it (which I didn't get to read). Sorry!
EDIT: Found a place for the Shins song. Yay! Had to bump Weaklazyliar off :( and add Hem for better flow. #18-20 used to be Weaklazy->FF->Rufus. Make that 4 covers now. I updated the dl link, and I have no intention of uploading a new cover image (since only the tracks changed). That's it. I am done imposing my OCD onto this mix. :D

Feedback:
Looks great. I've used that Old 97s track myself.
kudos for jonatha brooke and eleni mandell.
Wonderful. Love the 2-5, 7, 8, 11, 14 especially..
I'm with Sammyg123 on that 2-5 stretch. Very nice.
This is so, so nice - I absolutely love that Crowded House pick, and I think what you've chosen overall reflects your notes perfectly.
sad to see that shins track absent, as i recognized the lyric instantly -- it's one of my top 20 all-time favorite songs, easily. love the wilco, whiskeytown, decemberists & rufus tracks especially...
I too am quite fond of the absent title track, but good on you for not forcing it on there when it wouldn't flow. And it's not like any of the songs that you did put on this mix aren't worthy, anyway. Nicely done. I enjoyed reading your explanations, too.
Wow, really nice mixin', great selections abound.
Yes, It's me whose comment you deleted. It was an improvised 1,200 word essay on the nature of relationships and how making mix tapes is a microcosm for unrequited love. It was really quite brilliant actually. Now it's gone. All gone. Forever. Oh well. I do like the mix, and the cover is lovely. It's something I could easily fall in love with.
:D Nice!
All your mixes look fabulous, and yeah, great cover!
This does look fab. Keep up the labour of love!!!
