Comment:
Bruno Brookes writes: "After their New Year's 2006 extravaganza, here's the first offering for 2007 from the not-so-prolific Legend of Bear. Sticking to the ain't-broke-don't-fix maxim, it's the sort-of-usual cauldron of classics, curiosities and curveballs, with wit, whimsy and wonder to spare- a real feast for the ears and imagination. And those hints at narrative and thematically linked titles- what, if anything, can it all mean? There seems to be some otherworldly experience on side two, but perhaps the shadowy characters that people LoB's cassettes are simply driving high in the mountains. Only one guy knows for sure, and he ain't telling." ---- "Just the thing when you wanna get in the mood for pickin' up dames"- Tony Curtis. ---- "I wouldn't have the inspiration to make fat-suit movies without Bear's mixtapes"- Eddie Murphy. ---- "He's so spiritual"- Charlize Theron.Feedback:
Haha, love your notes. This is really nice - the second side's particularly sweet with the Stereolab -> Aphex Twin stretch. Also like the little Gallic section on the first side. I don't think we'll ever know what it all means but it's definitely enjoyable!
"In the beginning Bear made the heaven and earth-and it was good."
So, uhm, we have you to thank for Eddie Murphy's career choices?! Well, great mix nonetheless.
Though I can 'Bearly' make sense of your comments 'Brother Bear', have to say I've no grizzle with the mix.
Bruno Brookes huh? God bless 'im. God loves a trier. This mix has Rainy Night in Soho on it which is in my top 5 songs of all time. It also has Madame Hardy and the Swedish Robin Gibb aka Loney, Dear AND Orbital / Jansch. it can only be great.
Very, very cool. And thanks for picking me up for this journey in my hometown with that first track!
The final three on side one and the first three on side two speak to me.
side 2 looks especially wonderful, but some great gems on side 1 as well -- love that francoise hardy song in particular...
Nice mix.Like your opening four, and your Richman-Air stretch.
cool idea
S'lab, St E, Air and Aphex Twin does seem like an otherworldly experience. Bruno nailed it, as he always does, especially in his reviews of bear's mixtapes over the years. (-:
Great Opener. Love the Loney Dear & Beirut tracks on Side 1. Is that an Orbital / Bert Jansch mash up I see before my eyes? Oh, Love the entire second side also :)
Like Charlize says, and the last three grease my crease.
luv the Presley...in fact luv most of it...I wouldn't be on the site if it weren't for the mighty BEAR...jeez he's even gotten his own TV Survival Programme on C4!
If Eddie and Charlize dig this, then it must be good! Loving 4 and 6 on side 1 and pretty much everything on side 2.
Yesss. Waaay cool in a very bear-like fashion, my friend. Welcome to the new year! :-)
"Nice mix!" - DJVAOA
