Comment:
Babys First Mix.My little girl, 'Ava Grace' was born this afternoon, 1.04pm GMT weighing 6lb 7oz. She's just gorgeous, and I've been beaming from ear to ear all day. And here's her first mix! As you can see, it's nothing more than a collection of 'nice' songs that I hope she'll like, albeit at a reasonable volume. Hey, this fatherhood thing is already exhausting me. Upon leaving the hospital this evening, instead of heading for the pub, I got in a takeaway, submitted this mix and am now going to bed. Not very Rock and Roll I know :)
However, and this is no lie, the very second my girl was born, the radio playing in the background of the operating theatre kicked into 'Back In Black'. Now that is Rock and Roll!
Pt1 Pt2

Feedback:
Every single song here is class Sam. Love that Cranes song a lot. Congrats once again on the new arrival, I wish the 3 of you all the luck in the world.
Aw, glad she's healthy and out ok. Not a bad intoduction to Western Music for new ears! - And ditto what Barry said.
Well ring in the new! Congratulations! Ava is a beautiful name (although I was voting for Mandy). Excellent mix. Now get some sleep, Poppa.
Congratulations Sammy - absolutely adore that VU track...good luck to you all!
Whoopieee! congrats to you and Vicki. looking forward to updates on her musical progression...
Congratulations indeed! What a great mix for your girl. That 18 to 22 stretch is just divine.
Back in Black in the background?! \m/

sammy boy! congratulations & salutations, my good man! lovely name, & lovely mix! the opening three, & that whole 13-22 stretch is just achingly gorgeous. i would love a copy of this, dad. i'm really glad to hear about the kid popping out okay too! take care of yourselves, & try to get some rest!
What luck -- you had a girl! Jolly good show, sir. And count your blessings, each and every day, you have a girl vs. a boy. Not nearly the handful. And a very nice mix, too.
Congratulations. What a beautiful mix! I especially love your Nick Cave pick. I hope #12 doesn't make her cry (as a baby I used to bawl as soon as a sad song came on the radio).
Now that is just ever so sweet. Say hi to Ava from me!?
anyone who is mixing the day of their daughters birth has really got their priorities straight. (i think)
love the supremes, buckley, and velvet underground tunes especially.
love the supremes, buckley, and velvet underground tunes especially.
congrats and she will surely love this
Heartfelt congratulations Sammy, wishing the 3 of you well. (So you never considered changing Ava Grace's name to Rosie then, given the ACDC connection?) Start influencing em young, The High Dials & Brian Jonestown Massacre are amongst Freja's fave bands! Fab mix too btw.
Congratulations, Sammy! Wishing all three of you all the best. I fear that your daughter will grow up to be one of those people who don't know how to spell Elliott Smith's name! Sorry, just messing with ya, absolutely wonderful mix, especially that Nick Drake to Mazzy Star stretch.
On this same day (74 and 73 years earlier) my mom and dad were born. I'm sure their parents loved them but they were not blessed enough to have a beautiful mix like this waiting for them. Peace, love and happiness to all of you.
A sentimental journey. Alma Cogan, Hoyt Bohannon and myself will raise a toast to little Ava in a Brixton boozer this very night.
Congrats Mr. G! What a splendid way to welcome the little one into the world. So many great tunes but the closer is an all-time fav.
Congrats Sam! Sweet name and what a great start in the world- 3-5-8-19-20 big favourites of mine.
Congratulations! "Pale Blue Eyes" -> "Fade Into You" is as good a way to welcome a life as I can think of. Wonderful mix and congratulations again.
awesome news! great music to hail her with.
Congrats! That Back in Black story is priceless. So kewl.
Congrats to you both! Not only is Baby Ava lucky to have this mix but her very own theme song by AC/DC. I was nineteen before I had my own theme song. My favourites are: 1|3|5|6|12|19|22 Make certain that you keep a copy of this in the photo album. What a wunderful soundtrack this would make while looking at fotos!
Welcome to the world Ava !Congratulations, I hope mum is doing well too !Brilliant suggestion from DJ Karen, by the way . . . . and in case there are more to come, write Ava's name on the back of any photos . . . . I know it doesn't seem possible now, but in future years you may well get confused !?!not a bad mix either . . . .
Firstly I have to say CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you tell her the Back In Black story when she's older :) A lovely mix which I'm sure will go down extremely well - have to agree with Curtis re. the Pale Blue Eyes -> Fade Into You segue. The very best to all of you.
Congrats! and a very cool mix too.
Great job, my favorite for my own little princess was "Isn't She Lovely?"
All I can say is, if I'd even thought about doing a mix within a week of my kids' births, I'd have been signing divorce papers within the month. Great mix all around. One word of advice: Do what you can to shape her musical world now, because once she gets to school and has a peer group, she's going to think of your music pretty much the same thing you thought of your parents' music. I miss the days when my son would hang out and listen to the Pixies and Husker Du with me; these days, he's all hip-hop, all-the-time.
Congratulations Sam! This is the first of many mixes for Ava, I'm sure. All the best to yoo and your family.
Congrats! Beautiful mix as well.
If she's as gorgeous as this mix is, well, that's a hell of a compliment! :-) Congrats, Sammy. I hope that all is (and remains) well.
Hey! Let me be the 32nd person to congratulate you on the new edition. I'm smoking a cigar in your honor. Fab mix too. Ava Grace's poppa has good taste ;)
10-15 all looks great here, the Drake/Banhart coupling too. Nice job & congrats!
What a great introduction to the world!
Congratulations, Sam!!
Congratulations, Sam!!
Congratulations, Sam! Your life will never be the same--and I mean that in a good way!
Beautiful. I will drink a glass of beaujolais in your honor, starting now. I especially like 1, 6, 11, & 18. I decided long ago that I will sing that Devendra Banhart tune to my baby...if I ever have a baby. I already sing it to my scottish terrier puppy. He seems to like it. Best of luck to you & family!
Congratulations! Gorgeousness here to suit the occasion. Lovely name, too - all the best to you and yours.
Ahhhh, wonderful in every meaning of the world. May Ava Grace grow with peace.
It's true, she gorgeous. Welcome Ava Grace, you fortunate person -- your dad has one of the best music collections in the world; even better than that, he is perfectly happy to share it -- whatta guy! This mix is freakin' fantastic! I will not say I like the 17 - 22 run, though I flippin' well do! No, I will say. I like the 1-22 run, because I do, Great God Almighty, I do! and that's all I gots to say about that.
