Comment:

This is a mix is made for a friend to introduce him to the Beatles. Considering that the Beatles have put out SO many good songs, I realized that it would be pointless to try to make a "best of" comp. So what we have is a mix that has a lot of their best known songs, but some more lesser known gems as well. I didn't limit myself much except I decided not to include any songs pre-1965, as most of those would not flow very well together with say...."I am the Walrus." But I think it turned out good.

More interesting than an official Beatles comp, I'll give you that, but excluding their 1964 material seems an unwise play for an introduction. In fact, ACCENTUATING their early years might, in a superficial sense, be the better way to ease a person into the band. If you start with their more experimental, varied output of later years, they could end up disliking the earlier stuff later on, thinking it's too juvenile/simplistic. You gotta hook 'em on the gang's innate mastery of pop music first, then let their minds expand as the albums do. Or not. This is still a pretty cool looking mix, and needless to say, the songs themselves are A++

I, for one, agree with the pre-65 cut off, and personally tend to listen to very little pre-Revolver material. Not because it's not great and revolutionary and all that, but in light of what came later it's still simple pop. You hit on a lot of faves here, but I'd lean a lot more heavily on Abbey Road, which I consider to be their masterpiece.

Yeah. I see your point Mike, but I'm dealing with a fifteen year old and I wanted to start with the more timeless recordings. You have a very good point though, as the Beatles were still at the top of pop songwriting even then. I may very well do a sequel. And as for more Abby Road...tragically I don't have that albm, so I couldn't put anything from it on here. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Nice intro to the Fab Four. I am assuming that you are aware of this teen's current musical taste. I am certain you know best and made choices based on this. If you need unreleased demos and Pete Best stuff, you might want to contact Sister Gothique.
