Comment:
An introduction to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, for ofthaltned, who I thought might need and enjoy it - I realized that she didn't seem to know much Nick Cave after I sent her an mp3 of "Stagger Lee" at a time when she was listening to Mississipi John Hurt's "Stack-a-Lee" quite a lot. At her place I noticed that she did own a copy of The Boatman's Call, which is why I only included one cut from that, just as a reminder to pick it up from the shelf once in a while.Otherwise, I tried to include a fair selection from each album, excluding covers + the first two albums (which I don't know very well, and they probably don't have a lot of beginner-friendly material anyway) + Nocturama (because it simply isn't very good).
I really like how "Oh My Lord" starts with "I thought I'd take a walk today" and "Papa..." with "I went out walking the other day" - I have to admit that that's pretty much the reason I put them back to back at the beginning. Other than that, no reason to be proud, because anyone could make a great mix CD with even a random selection of Nick Cave songs.
Tracks considered for inclusion but that ultimately didn't make the cut, among others: "God Is In The House", "The Mercy Seat", "Dead Man In My Bed", "Straight To You", "The Curse Of Millhaven". Title from "Deanna".
Feedback:
Well, actually, you're kinda wrong in your assumption that I haven't heard much Nick Cave - I have heard a lot of these at some point or another (Christoph owns most of his albums), I've just always been too lame to actually pick them up myself, and consequently haven't heard them in a while. Which is to say, you're definitely right in assuming that I'd "need and enjoy" something like this. I do, and I do.
I didn't notice about the going for a walk theme, but now that you mention it, track 3 continues the theme as well, with "Take a little walk to the edge of town...". Neat. But, speaking of which: "You don't have no self-respect / You feel like an insect"? Worst forced rhyme this side of Avril Lavigne. Sorry, it just needed to be said. Still, awesome mix, thank you! And you may blame this on my staggering lack of humility, but I'd certainly be proud if I'd made this!

Ahh, damn, forgot that Christoph had them! I suppose I should rename this "A reintroduction to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds", then.
Thank you for pointing out that I am even more of a genius than I thought I was with that "take a walk" theme, too, hehe. I agree that that line you singled out isn't too great - it never particularly shocked me though.

Ahhh yes. Terrific picks.
I don't know Mr. Cave's work well, but this looks like a perfect intro. As the kids say in Quebec, "N'y a-t-il pas de lien?" (That probably sounds more like Saskatchewan, sorry.)Something about that theme, I just remembered I'm supposed to go walk the dog.
