Comment:
With a few exceptions, this mix focuses on the styles and influences of dance music from both Cuba & Brazil. The modern mambo originated in Cuba in 1938 but the first musician to create mambo music was Perez Prado.
The Cha-Cha-Cha originated in 1951 in Cuba by violinist Enrique Jorrin. The many variants of Samba, Brazil's most popular dance, developed into The Bossa Nova and was first heard in 1958. BTW Schifrin's The Cat is not the Jimmy Smith version. 9 of the tracks are from The Rare Groove Label who released a wonderful 11 volume set of mostly 60's Latin grooves - `From Latin. To Jazz Dance' Vol 1-5 (80 tracks) & `Exciting Jazz Sambas' Vol 1-6 (120 tracks) - not definitive alas but an essential addition to anyone interested in Latin Grooves. The covers, incidentally, are not disimilar to my Mondo Designs. Below is the super rare Dom1 Mondo Ann-Margret coaster for the Bossa Barbeque. At Mondo, we feel summer is on the way & Dom1 is heading off to Paris to join his wife for a (much needed) delayed honeymoon week. Ooh la la!
Feedback:
Absolutely killer mix, LOVE those latin grooves. I must say, I've never fallen in love with a coaster before.

Bravo Dom1, este est muito magnifico. Feliz honeymoon!
Ooh La La indeed Mr Mann :) A highlight of the series..
she does GREAT eye contact . . . .
Enjoy your honeymoon, amigo
Muy caliente, caballero. Disfrute bien de la luna de miel.
Edmundo Ros and Xavier Cugat (w/ their respective orchestras) are two of my very favorites. this mix is quite simply the best! though I could never settle a long island iced tea across Ann-Margret's gorgeous puss.
I'd love to hear this.
I LOVE this and once again wish I could get hold of your mixes! Great Astrud Gilberto pick. Hope you have a great honeymoon!
Lovely stuff - enjoy your honeymoon.
This looks fun, although I can only listen to this type of music in small-ish doses.
