Comment:
Episode #35 of Bob Dylan's "Theme Time Radio Hour" addressed "Women's Names." I tried to cover as many letters as I could, but quit without finding a Q, U, X, or Z name/song that I really liked. Bob didn't bother with such an alphabetical approach, which was undoubtedly the smarter way to go. He played the Kink's original version of "Lola," so I couldn't resist including the Raincoat's cover version. (Flaco Jimenez's "Carmelita" is a cover of the Warren Zevon song, incidentally.) The Frank Sinatra song is from the 1942 musical comedy "Ship Ahoy," which marked his film debut. The song's title refers to the main character, dancer Tallulah Winters, played by Eleanor Powell - not to Tallulah Bankhead. However, "Ingrid Bergman" is Woody Guthrie's tribute to that actress. And while Matthew Sweet's "Winona" wasn't originally written for actress Winona Ryder, it is named after her. Mix title is from Dylan's "Outlaw Blues."Feedback:
I like it a lot...and I think you can count Susie Q as A Q as well.
Your aim is true....
ok, so out here in the sticks we are a little behind you up-front-cutting-edge-hip guys in the US, so I am not up to #35 yet, but I am really enjoying the Bob radio shows too . . . .good show on your own interpretation . . .
fine fine
alison is probably my favorite woman's name song. i never can decide whether i like flaco's version of carmelita better than the original or not but either is a+. nice job.
Love Alison but Veronica is my favorite Elvis C girl's name somng. Hven't heard Flaco's version but love Warren's Carmelita. Great Bragg / Wilco, Waits and Berry picks too.
Truly EXCELLENT mix here, Sir!! Love the Bob Dylan show as well.
12 to 15 looks sounds really good in my head! Another great mix.
i definitely dig this mix
Fantastic - I'm impressed that you managed to stick so well to the alphabetic order while managing to get tracks that fit together really well. I love Juanita, Lola, Ingrid Bergman and To Ramona - the FBB's cover of that one is great too.
This is great. I'm not a huge theme-mix guy (at least not this type of thing), but the songs are so fantastic that it works well.
Excellent. Some great picks here, and a nice touch with the closer...
