A bit chaotic, stylistically, but if you spend enough time with it, it all coheres quite nicely, I think. This is like the musical equivalent of a parade float describing a day in my life, a big pastiche to my many different moods and avenues of thought. I got in some incredibly nostalgic '80s pop, lots of indie music (some from Sweden, inevitably), an oldie or two, a power pop thread, some plain old rock 'n' roll, a handful of wistful cuts to elucidate the more thoughtful underpinnings of my theme, a song title duet that was actually just serendipitous (since I found myself listening to both Joy Division and that Honedrips song recently), a brush stroke of sheer happiness, some of the coolest guitar work I've heard in a long time courtesy of new Dinosaur Jr., a soul-stirring version of a famous song I discovered from a movie ("Silkwood"), and I led things off with a musical number - yeah, that pretty much sums me up, I'd say. Cheers!P.S. Title is from The Broken West. Not only is "Down in the Valley" one of my theme songs lately AND just a flat-out wonderful piece of music, but I can also say that its lyrics describe the point of this mix to an extent, since I live in California in a city called Escondido, which is Spanish for "hidden valley". Ah? ;)

Now I have that Paint Your Wagon song in my head... where am I goin'? I don't know... kind of a theme song for me. Good stuff here.
