Comment:

Now that they've released a third album, I was finally able to put together this, the single-artist mix that I've most wanted to do since 2003's Chutes Too Narrow (my absolute favorite album of this decade) was released. (I absolutely adored Oh Inverted World at the time of its release, as well, and it's somewhere in my top 10 albums of this decade, I'm sure.) These guys really have it all down--great instrumentation, a cohesive sound, and, above all, the vocal and songwriting talents of James Mercer (who is one of my all-time favorite lyricists, to boot). I honestly could have included just about every track from those first two albums here, so there were plenty of songs cut. The one that killed me to chop, however, was "Saint Simon" (the Last Track Cut).

without a doubt one of the couple greatest pop groups of the past decade -- maybe the best. chutes too narrow is one of my top 20-25 all-time favorite albums, & i love their latest & the debut too. my three favorite songs by them are here -- "young pilgrims," "pink bullets" & "gone for good" -- but i do bemoan the absence of "turn on me," my favorite song from the new album...

I do not quite share your or Anthony's enthusiasm for these guys, but then again, what's not to like about them? Fine choices, without a doubt.

wow . . . not sure that I would have done a single artist mix just yet, but having said that it is going to be a great listen. 'So says I' (in particular) regularly finds its way onto my mixes . . .

Love it, Rob. But this leads us right into the major unsolved metaphysical question of the 21st century: what is "New Slang" about?

The Wheel, Sliced Bread, The Telephone, Television, Washing Machines, DVD, Ipods, The Shins. How did we once live without these? I love the Shins, just love 'em. Rob, I have to request a trade or link because I know nothing of Flake Music and I'm getting excited just thinking about them :)

Another in the long list of bands you've turned me onto that I have learned to love. Still need to get the debut.

Bastard! I've got mine on my pc ready to burn (like you, figured it was time once the third album came out). Haven't made the final cut, but imagine it will look pretty similar.

Oh, Inverted World is wonderful, but the other albums never really clicked with me. They kind of annoy me. Anyway, you've done a masterful job here. Nice that you also included 5 and 6... most Shins fans don't even know about those tracks!

I haven't heard much of this, but I have liked what I have heard. I liked Sammyg123 comments, too.
