comp is 21.5 (the pgmg track is a short instrumental interlude around half a minute long) tracks long, in honor of the recipient's 21.5th birthday. structured like a tape (which it would have been if my tape deck were working) where side A (ending with the beirut) was more traditional "i-really-kinda-like-you" indie rock where all the songs sort of blend together into something really cohesive and are generally inoffensive but sweet if you like that sort of thing (which, while i'm sure it was appreciated, is probably not his sort of thing), while side B (starting with the nmh) is more just "no-seriously-i-really-like-you-so-here's-a-super-joyous-song-about-it" indie rock with a little more variety and tons more energy. the title is from the islands song: "you can scoop out my brains/ shape them into an ear and then tell me your pain".
