Comment:
My favorite 80 minutes by the legendary Howard Devoto's OTHER band (who are just shy of being as absolutely essential in an apples 'n' oranges kinda way as his first outfit--y'know, that little-known group called Buzzcocks). I've been wanting to compile this for some time but had been having trouble locating their various non-LP singles and b-sides until Virgin/EMI have reissued their catalog in (very nicely) remastered form with the non-LP singles, etc. as bonus tracks. Although they only recorded four records, this could have easily been a disc and a half. The following tracks were very, very, very difficult to cut: "Touch and Go," "Because You're Frightened," "I Want to Burn Again," "Cut-Out Shapes," "Talk to the Body," "Rhythm of Cruelty [single version]," "Philadelphia" and "Recoil."Feedback:
Know naught of them but dig the Buzzcocks so I am intrigued.
all points covered very nicely . . .
Love them. Obviously 'Shot By Both Sides' is one of the finest singles ever made. But 2,4,7,12,15 & 16 are all absolute belters. Nice job.
gotta admit, as much as i love them, i've got the tendency to sometimes look at them from the perspective of the buzzcocks' shadow -- still a terrific band, & it looks like you've hit all the high points, great work
fantastic band, you could easily do a sequel
Yup gotta agree with Sammy re the opener, looks like you got everything covered here Rob.
Can't go wrong with magazine!
Gotta love this Rob. Sterling work as usual.
Excellent choice. My favorite kinda band, like Can or Mission of Burma Devoto and company were outstanding musicians who chose follow the bizarre. IMO, they lost something when John Mceogh split, but I'm always up for a reassessment of past opinions so I'm ordering all four of the LP remasters myself.
Great stuff!!
I keep finding you doing mixes of some of my fave bands. For a while A Song From Under The Floorboards was my favourite single of all time.Great to see the B side of Shot By Both Sides on here.My only criticism is there is no Model Worker.Perfect work otherwise.
