Comment:
Regular listeners of my mixes will know I tend to throw in a couple of Soul Stompers in each of my Mixed Genre mixes. I hadn't as yet, though, attempted a full-on Soul-Funk mix, so a couple of days back I decided to rectify that wrong. It soon became apparent there were too many tracks I just had to include so the Single disc became a double. So here it is, 50 cuts so infectious you won't know what day it is. So let me remind you, it's Funky Sunday. So do what Gilbert did & get down!Just a quick note: The Tyrone Davis track appears on a mix of mine for a third time ( fourth if you count The Wonder Years 1969 ). Apologies, but it's just so damn good. Oh, and if you haven't worked out already, that's an altogether different `Tool' on tk1...

Feedback:
Oh, this is the juice I been waiting for. Happy Birthday to me!
Soul good, Sam
Oh shit! Fook all them baby mamas, son. This mix is the business. Impeach the President?!? Damn, yo! Thanks for the zip link; perfect for the uninitiated. 5 fruit-flavoured stars headed your way!!!
MoTW. Love these expansive labors of love. Essential.
Thumbs fucking up.
Thanks for the links! I Especially like the 2nd half. You are right about that Tyrone Davis tune; definitely great; as is the closer by William DeVaughn.
I'm definitely going to wrigle by butt to this juicy fruit -- as soon as I download it that is (it will only take my computer about 10 hours on my speedy dial-up connection). This does look phenomenal. So much cool stuff: the Sylvers, Nicole Willis, Trammps, YHU, Alzo & Udine, Commodores, Sly Stone, Tyrone Shoelaces... Everything you do is gonna be funky!
oh my god, this is tremendously fantasically wonderfully unbelievably good, sammy - MOTW, more like mix of the year. i keep trying to list some of my favorites, but i keep erasing & starting over because there are so many straight up classics. downloading as i speak - phenomenal!
This 'un is going into heavy rotation. Serious soul Sammy and, as Anthony says, there are too many favorites to list.
Sam! what have you done. I'm taking the week off work so I can stay home with this one.
Super! Always loved that Arthur Conley track (one used to be the bad boogaloo). Top picks among ones that were new to me: Betty Wright "Shoorah, Shoorah" and NW + SI "The Invisible Man." A major accomplishment, my man.
Was going to ask if that "Maceo" was THE Maceo of the Famous Flames, but after listening I gotta say it is.

This digs deep and soul satisfying it is!
EVERYBODY DANCE LIKE THERE WAS ASS IN YOUR PANTS!!! YES!!!
There are no words Sam.... MotW? Of course it is!
We thank you for these jollies that are hard-core!
Where's the volume on this thing?
Whoa! This is freakin' ridiculous (on the good scale). This will take a few good days to digest... can't wait!
Holy moly, Sam, this is incredible!
Holy freakin freoles!!! The Ike & Tina/Ohio Players/Curtis Mayfield run, Sly, The Meters, Ann Peebles, Sam & Dave, of course Tyrone's epiphony.... Joe Tex, are you kidding me? Martha Reeves, King Curtis, Smokey, Willie Bobo and Gil Scott Heron!!! Simply Spectacular Sammy.
This makes me drool. The few tracks I'm familiar with are among my favorites from the artist in question (Curtis, Ike & Tina, Gil Scott-Heron, Sam & Dave).
Mix of the week? Well duh.
Nice one Sam, funkin' fantastic in fact! Congrats on a well deserved MotW.
Congrats! Brilliant stuff.
Congrats, Some really juicy stuff on here!
Congrats on MOTW!
In a word: HOT!
This is fantastic, Sam. Congrats.
Awesome. Congrats!!!
More funk than you can shake a stick of gum at!!
Mix of the Week hands down. I would have chosen it myself but I could not find the secret door to the cabal. I'll have to ask either DJ Karen or Mark P. Did you know that chewing gum can enhance the breasts?

good lord, Sam this is good. I've only made it through disc one so far, but will put #2 on tomorrow, can't wait. favorites a'plenty: Tool, Alzo & Udine, Ronnie Hudson, Ike & Tina, Marlena Shaw, The Meters (what a glorious organ!), Incredible Bongo Band, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. yes, that's quite obviously a different Tool, and I'm betting your Esther Williams isn't the synchronized swimmer I've seen in the movies. let me be the first, er... the twenty-first to congratulate you on Mix of the Week for this incredible hunk of soul.
Can't go wrong with classics like these. Great compilation.
Congrats. Great collection.
I'm gonna put your comment tally into triple digits if I don't stop soon. but wanted to chime in about disc two. loved the Eugene McDaniels->Darondo->Chakachas bit. the Nicole Willis & the Soul Investigators and Betty Wright tunes also stood out. One of your best collections, Sam.
I'd love to trade for a copy of this mix. I've posted a couple of older funk mixes that you might like. I also have a ton of older funk and soul tracks that I'd be happy to swap, so please let me know.
Cheers!
Cheers!
This may be the best mix ever made. These things are so hard to quantify (he he). I will not warble on in florid scriptoform, no not I.If I had made this, I would remain smug for a ludicrous length of time. Yes, yes I would. Go on Sam, bask in it -- you deserve to. It's freakin' marvelous!
fantastic, gimme a drink and a dance all night
. . . . and I missed this ? How did that happen ?I'm with P the Swede !
I was positive I commented on this... anyway, so darn great. Like they all say!
Late for the party, glad to see it's still swingin'. Congrats on MotW and thanx for the linx.
Sam, this looks fantastic. I'll burn this on disk and get down, get down, get down... Lots of songs here I don't know yet. Great cover art, too.
This looks great fun. Do you have a link I can use to download it from anywhere?
Nice mix! Good songs and a fun cover to boot.
Shit is fly, yo.
I LOVE this mix!!! Claudia Lennear, Marlena Shaw, etc. Funky . . .
Fun.
Fantastic!
excellent mix so much stuff I love here. And yes the Tyrone Davis is excellent!
I did my first soul/funk mix myself yesterday and I'd love your feedback since you're the expert on the matter in here. Check my profile.
