33. Flop -- Vancouver Door Company
34. Flop -- Asthenia

To my mind, Rusty Willougby is one of the great unrecognized musical talents of the 90's. The bulk of this mix is made up of tracks from Flop, one of my all-time favorite bands. With Flop, Rusty's British invasion-influenced melodies and twisted lyrics (favorite themes: alienation and disease) were backed by superb playing from drummer Nate Johnson and lead guitarist Bill Campbell. All three of Flop's albums are great: Trouser Press called "Flop & the Fall of the Mopsqueezer!" "one of the '90s' finest debuts," and second album "Whenever Your Ready" is surely the best 1 cent disc available on Amazon. Third album "World of Today" lacks the powerful minor-to-major key changes that put the first two albums among my all-time faves, but this is largely made up for with unique rhythms and and some of Rusty's most brilliantly bitter lyrics.

Before and after Flop, Rusty played with Pure Joy, whose talent and energy didn't reach Flop's levels but who still managed to put together a solid discography of swell pop songs. Rusty has long been tight with Fastbacks' Kurt Bloch, and he played drums for Fastbacks on "Zncker" and a couple other albums. His latest project is Llama, with whom he continues to put out satisfying pop songs.
