Comment:
Jeremy Paxman writes: Most puzzling. Having found Legend of Bear slumped over their decks, one gibbering incomprehensibly (the poor chap is now under observation in the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel), another with blood leaking from his ears, the last wide eyed and unable to speak, we can perhaps only hazard guesses at what may have taken place. Do the contents of this mix tape offer any clues? Certainly, it's a less impressive affair than we might expect... or is it? Is the juxtaposition of indie hipsters Arcade Fire and the little known Madeleine meant to provoke, or merely amuse? What to make of the inclusion of 80s Motown horror DeBarge? Or the groaningly obvious title segue at 7-8, or the overly corny gimmick of 'time travelling' via the Dr Who theme to Pachelbel's frankly overplayed, if prettily melancholy, classical standard? LoB's notes indicate confusion over the title, and descend into babble: '...keeps turning the pitch up...' ; '...he won't leave the treble levels alone...' ; '...mad bastard... keep away from my wine!' ; 'We cannot get out. Drums. Drums in the deep. We cannot get out.' This writer suspects it's all just a practical joke, at least the result of deep boredom, or a profound need to show off. I shall leave it to the Art of the Mix community to decide...Feedback:
Are you sure that's wine and not absynthe? Most eclectic indeed my dear Bear.
'a certain sense of taste, style or flair' I think though that may be the alcohol talking.
Eclecticism is always good. But did you just call El Debarge a "horror"? Shame on you. Nice Lonnie Donegan tune though, and Richard Harris was so sexy in his forties.
me thinks absynthe!
your liner notes are a riot, & a stellar set of songs doesn't hurt
my first guess was that Orchid had busted down the door and kicked both halves of their lily-white asses for calling DeBarge an '80s Motown horror. there's always "Love Me In a Special Way," after all. great mix, Bear. but remember, even with first names like Chico, Bunny and El, you dis DeBarge, and you will pay.
Yo-Hey-Check This Out... I love that BVSMP track, I remember it being one of my first vinyl purchases ( must've been about 10 ). And DeBarge? Well it's a great song. Full Stop. This is awesome Jake, love the Auteurs pick, and Lonnie, and the cover star of the first edition of Smash Hits ( Plastic Bertrand ).....Bravo!
Funny ! Actually that whole Richard Harris album is a riot too - Most underrated. Love the Ghost into Rodrigo bit too.
This looks very cool, as per usual.
I think this look fantastic
The Calexico / DeBarge and Donegan / Televison pairings are, well, vivid.
Whatever really happened - it all turned out perfectly in the morning.
5 for the mix. 6 for the originality. Inspriring stuff.
Yeah, this is pretty sweet. Good show!
DeBarge and Calexico were meant to be together. Thank you for bringing this to light. It could be the dawning of a new age. There is greatness afoot here, this thing is flippin' riddled with it.
Luv the look of this my good Dr!
Killer execution!
