Looking for feedback and suggestions from other Springsteen fanatics. I promised a friend of mine a four disc collection of some Springsteen material, and since I tend to be driven to create "great" mixes in the aesthetic sense, I figured I'd get some feedback early on and consider any alternative suggestions anyone might throw my way. The best mix I came up with previously was a collaboration of sorts and I like outside opinions. This is not and was never meant to be a "greatest hits" collection, hence the absence of Born In the USA (I'm planning on using the acoustic version from the Nebraska sessions in Volume 3), Hungry Heart, etc. Of course some "hits" are in here, but only where I felt they fit with the musical landscape of the sequence. Anyways, just figured I'd post this and see what you all have to say for better or worse - any comments would be helpful as I'm working on this project. Thanks!!!Feedback:
Well, Wild & the Innocent is my favorite album, along with side 1 of Asbury Park. But the best thing for you is do what you want, any of us will nitpick these kind of collections to death. I like working on the highway and I wanna marry you and saint in the city and couldn't do a Springsteen collection without Lost in the Flood, but well, there's my nitpicking ;-)
Just go with your gut feelings-anything by the "Boss" is a good thing.
I think that nearly everything he did pre-Born in the USA is just amazing. Stuff after that had its charm, but it was all too produced for its own good. You've hit some highlights here, that's for sure.
I'm still gradually making my way through his discography, so I can't offer much feedback since I'm not perfectly familiar with all his '80s work. But as the risk of being a cliche, I would highly recommend "Blinded by the Light", "Reason to Believe", and as doowad said, "Flood". But it just comes down to each person's preferences really, and you already have a dynamic, seemingly well-thought-out setlist
String - I still think people gloss over the earlier jazzy stuff Springsteen did, so I'd try to get The Fever and New York City Serenade on there, and The Price You Pay and Frankie from the later 70s...
