Comment:
My younger brother is right, I DO manage to go on a one-artist-bender every few months. This month, with the release of "Icky Thump" I find myself listening to a lot of White Stripes. Someone once told me that The Stripes seem like the sort of act that could just pack it up and call it a day at any given moment...maybe that's what I like about them. The simplicity of the music, the catchiness of their riffs, and the way they harken back to some of the earliest rock and blues are all what has impressed me about Jack and Meg ever since I got into them after WHITE BLOOD CELLS. Yeah, I know, this mix is very singles-loaded, and has one or two covers too many, but I figured it was time to give The Stripes their twenty tracks. Cheers! -Famous.
Feedback:
Nicely done.
First of all... your brother marvelled at how you go on artist benders as soon a sthey release sub-par and irrelevant albums.
Second, it was said same brother that made the comment about their likely disappearance.
WAY too Singles heavy. Considering their penchance for covers, three is a manageable sum, although your reliance on both overshadowed some deserving gems (only 5 tracks are neither singles, nor covers) from the earlier AND later discs like 'Hello Operator,' 'Pretty Good Looking (for a Girl)', and 'Black Math'.
AND, finally, considering your penchance for said covers... where the HELL is 'Death Letter'?
Great band. OK mix.

Geez, I hope that's your brother. You hit the essentials and I think that this would be a great mix to introduce somebody to the Stripes. If you're an aficianado (sp?) you already have all their stuff and don't need a comp. Besides, It's your mix so tell your brother to pound sand. Nice job.
You serve them well, Famous. I think it's a very even mixture of hits and deeper cuts. If my opinion were asked on ideas, I might nominate "Black Math" and "Pretty Good Looking", but that's just me. And while I dig your "Icky Thump" choices, I think both "You Don't Know What Love is (You Just Do as You're Told)" and their version of "Conquest" have the most potential among their new stuff to become WS classics. So maybe we'll revisit this idea in a few years :)
