Comment:

My last mix was full of 60s tunes. And the next mix I shall post is also full of 60s. I've also recently posted a mix dominated by mainly 70s soul. So, just to prove I still listen to `Modern' music and have my finger on the pulse, here's a collection of my favourite tracks from some of my favourite albums of '07. A half term report, you could say. All in all I reckon it's been a fine year for music. And I eagerly look forward to the second half..

Interesting Sam. I am sifting through songs of the first half of 2007 for a similar mix. The Willy Mason track is under consideration and there will be tracks by The Shins and The Apples In Stereo, though not the tracks you have chosen.

what a brilliant concept . . . . the time travel mix !!Yep, 2007 is a belter of a year . . . . shaping up to be as good as (say) 2002 or 2005 . . . IMHOI know very few of these. Which is also an indication of how good 2007 is shaping up to be. I look forward to learning. Tomorrow I disappear for a month. When I get back, we definitley should trade (but I am slow . . . . ask Rob !) . . . . Kudos.

I am painfully out of touch. To be remedied in a few...clicks...of the mouse. Much THX!!!!

I love the Vandervelde (as you mentioned on my latest mix), like the Shins and Of Montreal tracks quite a bit and am okay with the Apples in Stereo. I'm interested in Candie Payne. Haven't liked Ladybug so much since Jennifer Baron left, but I haven't heard their latest release... and the rest I don't know. I think it's been a fine year for music thus far, though.

Oh, forgot to say that I like the Dreadful Yawns record and feel the same way about the New Pornographers that I feel about the Apples. I am, however, going to download this mix, because I'm sure you've nailed plenty of highlights here.

I only know about half of this first half mix, so I'll have to give her a listen. I'm sure Casey Kasem will be rapping nostalgically about these in 2034.

In about 20 years, these will indeed be my golden oldies, since I'm been in love with 2/3rds of the songs on here. Wonder how they'll sound in the future...p.s. extra cool on the New Pornographers

you've nailed plenty of my own favorites from this year, & came up with a hell of a mix in the process - kudos to you, sammy

You not only have your finger on the pulse, you are a trend-setter.
Thx for the DL. I'm posting the exact same mix 40 years from now under the same title.

Im actually only know half of this Sam but what I do know is superb so am willing to bet I'll love the rest. 2007 is a fantastic year for music and I reckon I'll still say that in 20 years time.

Cool stuff. Loads of great picks. Can't wait for that New Pornographers record to drop in August.

as you know very well, my finger is not on the pulse of modern music. my fingers are usually busy elsewhere, and I need mixes like this one to use as a stethoscope to hear the pulse, if only for an hour. in addition to a pulse, I heard some strong hand-clapping in track 3 that I liked, some nice voices at 13 & 21 and a great instrumental track by Seabear. looking forward to your end-of-the-year report!

Nice one sammyg123! Some known, some unknown, but that's the fun of this extraordinary year so far...loads to (still) discover. (Plus, isn't Doves set to release a new one soon?) Good on ya' for the Dreadful Yawns.

There is a place so far from here you may never find it. In a tiny corner of this place, so remote you may never notice it, a flower blooms but once a lifetime. As the blossoms burst toward the light they emit a glorious sound, so softly that you may never hear it. This is the sound of Angels and the flower is named for this, Angelicus Vocalis. This mix has nothing to do with this, and is not the sound of Angels. It is, nonetheless, frightfully good and thoroughly well put together. But hey, it's SammyG -- I expect no less. It is also most intriguing, and this is a good thing. Yay Sammy! -- or somesuch expression of joy and affirmation.

I've been busy with other projects recently, and I haven't gotten around to listen to this yet. I plan to do so soon, though, as this looks like a great way to find out what's hot in 2007. Thanks!
