[May 2007] My first narrative mix. I had envisioned this mix to be a humourous one about the escapades of Ms. Carmen Sandiego (which is why the theme is included as a "bonus" track") but along the way it morphed into something more serious and sombre.
I knew for certain that I wanted "California" as the last track - it's a perfect anticipatory, bitterweet returning-home track - but also I desperately wanted to include "Driving Sideways" and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye". The story that ensued: girl-has-issues, significant-other-dumps-girl, girl-flees-hometown-in-California-to-find-herself-despite-protestations-of-loved-ones, roadtrip 'n' angst, girl-soulsearches-in-New-York, girl-returns-home-still-uncertain-but-somewhat-enlightened.
I think it works. Er.
