Comment:

Originally titled 'Homographic Rock', this mix initially looks like a run of the mill outing, but none of the bands you see here are who you probably think they are. A mix of 60s & 70s acts so little known that in most cases their more succesful namesakes probably don't even know they exist. Most of these originals fall in either the Garage, Psych, Girl Group or Folk category...
NB - Quality control on this mix is a little looser than normal. A quarter of the tracks are vinyl rips, some of them very apparently. And while there are some belters on here, a few are at best, average, for example the Oasis track, the best off of a poor album, definitely. Well, maybe..
Still, there's enough here to make you smile, not least the Sonia track ( thanks to Mixxer for that one ) and the Nirvana opener. Not a whinge or snarl in sight there... Enjoy.

Neat! Fabulous idea. I am am aware of the 60s Cake, but none of the others. Except the Nightcrawlers, of whom I only know the Little Black Egg guys, so I must be missing some new band by that name?

Could the Oasis here be any worse than the modern lot? Some great garage gems here, the Nightcrawlers and the Bees. And I'm always partial to a slice of Cake.

Cool, cool, cool. In the dark about a lot of these (unless they've shown up on one of the Nuggets boxes), but count me among those who will take the first Nirvana over the second Nirvana any day of the week.

Bravo sammyg! I know most of these, 24 at least, and am thrilled they've been compiled together in an assemblage which makes perfect sense and heightens awareness of these names of the past. (I'll take this Nirvana anyday as well!) Yes," take a bow son, take a bow"!

So is this the real Sammy or some obscure gent from the 60s? Whoever it is, this is one teriffic mix. I thought it was a collection of obscure b-sides (or a Bee side in one case), until I read your comments. Looking forward to hearing all these original bands. If you tackle another one, don't forget the 60s band the Knack.

Great idea, great execution. What's really spooky is that the lead singer of the original Nirvana was named Curt Colane.

well, I like that first track, but I think I still prefer the Nirvana behind door #2. but these Charlatans are awesome, as is that song, and I like the Scorpions, Cake, Sonia and Magnum tracks a lot. well done!
