Comment:
I'm a huge fan of the Warner/Reprise cheapo samplers from my youth. I recently found myself about to lay a bid on a copy of ZappTd when I realized I could easily make my own version. This differs from the original with some personal picks plus the addition of three international acts that, while not Straight/Bizarre artists, benefited from the Zappa sound.Feedback:
Oh yeah, I remember the "loss leaders." Now we've been zappTd once again. Cool stuff.
I absolutely love those collections--I remember seeing ads for them in a ton of my uncle's old LPs when I was first getting into music--and this definitely captures their spirit. Genius, good sir. Genius.
Me too. I had lots of those samplers. I enjoyed your link and spend a little time browsing the collection. I was surprised how many of those covers were familiar. Anyway, these samplers were great introductions for me to bands like Little Feat, Captain Beefheart, Wild Man Fischer, etc, etc back in the late 60s early 70s. Nice one.
Great idea.
Wild stuff, 8-10 and the closing pair look enticing.
This looks like a soon-to-be favorite of mine. Astonishing in it's oddball, freakout-ish wonderfulness. Fantastic stuff, LoFi. Oh, and tip o' the hat for your acknoweledgement in the most recent GZD!
...or did Zappa benefit from Beefheart? This mix is the Zoots, the hot Zoots!
looking totally great!
i have hard goods around here somewhere.
EXCELLENT mix, Sir!
Hooray Magma! Hooray Plastic People! Hooray this mix! That equals three cheers for lo-fi jr.
Yes, great mix from a great collection series.
I don't think those samplers made it over here - but that just makes this mix all the more enjoyable :)
I love this.
