Comment:
Anyone who knows me very well at all knows that I am quite obsessed with Kerouac. So I decided to make a mix that cements that obsession in audio form. All the non-Jack tracks are either other artists' renditions of his pieces, or songs/spoken word about him.Feedback:
wow this is awesome and much needed Mix. Excellent. I have a box set of Jack doin his thing. PULL MY DAISY!!!!
I think Kerouac's greatest legacy is in Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. Ginsberg and Burroughs made more long-lasting 'art' as his contemporaries, Thompson was more fun and ol' Jack never reached Faulkner, Steinbeck or Hemingway's level. But the music, hey, it works, this looks like fun. Speaking of Dylan, his most direct homage was 'On the Road (Again)' from Bringing it all back home, unless of course you were to pirate a copy of him reciting Kerouac's Mexico City Blues with Ginsberg at Jack's graveside...
Awesome! I'm a huge Jack Kerouac fan as well (hence the username). This looks really good.
I can't even put into accurate words how much Kerouac means to me. I still have the copy of "On The Road" that I never returned to my high school library, I carried it around in my coat pocket for years.
digging out my kerouac. thanks!
very nice tribute.
This looks interesting, but I'd like to see a musical tribute to Kerouac as well. After thinking about that, I decided to do a search on aotm and found such a mix by Dom1 that was posted on 6/13/2005 (I'll be studying that one further).Myself, I did three musical mixes inspired by Hunter S. Thompson (posted 3/3 & 4/13/05 & 8/20/06) who himself was inspired by Hemingway and Kerouac. He eventually decided he couldn't write like Hemingway (or it was too much work), so settled on emulating Kerouac instead (imho).
After taking a second look at your mix I see that you have more music here than I originally thought. Looks like a good combination of music and the spoken word. I'm sure it is a fine tribute (only wish I could download it).
