Somewhere...beyond the crossroads of the Galactic Wellspring and the Ambient Gulf-Stream, lies a kinetic energy portal...a pathway of sorts. If you're able, move diagonally through the portal; once inside peer towards the center structure...known as the Astral Wave-Table. There sits the studio commonly referred to as the l@b. The aging watchman sits, slowly sipping his coffee (Ethiopian Sidamo), his hand at the ready, a firm grasp upon the trim-tab...

...his only job: aural-structure stabilization.

Part 1 of 4. Links contain mix tracks & Illustrator/J-Peg artwork. Cover image created from a WinAmp screen shot during mix playback, then "massaged" in Adobe Illustrator.

THANKS to: Blackadder for the Robert Rich track, MulletProof for the dntl & fourcolor, The New Leif Allstars for the Supersilent cut and to Warren Carney for Jan Jelinek & Apex Twin (all contained at various points within the series' 4 volumes).

Thanks, Ed, thanks, Terry.

One of the challenges I made for myself, and one of the reasons this series took so long, (aside from plain ol' life), was fitting in a slice of Fripp & Buck's Slow Music Project. It's an insanely quirky/slow piece of live improvisation that rides a fine line between avant-jazz & ambience. I was about ready to cave in and toss the track when I read about David Torn's Prezens project. And while most of that album didn't fit the theme of this mix, a little track entitled 'Ever More Other' worked well with the Slow Music piece; and, when sandwiched between it and O Yuki...voila!

I dig it when I can figure out all the puzzle pieces just so which, for me, is what making a mix is all about.

Yes, it's good to see you back aboard the AOTM crazy train. And once again, I don't recognize a single thing. Nothing really changes! ;) Great cover as always. Happy to see you found your way around the site's nonfunctioning artwork feature.

Wow, you wait an age for a g.a.b. l@bs mix, and then two come along at once! Some lovely sounds on these, great stuff. Now don't be a stranger :)

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
You're right, Moe...nothings really changes (by itself): I still prefer deep, geeky ambient quasi-sounds strung together, although, I just 2 days ago dug out my old copy of Physical Graffiti and digitized it (talk about love, ya' know-a-oh, oh).
Sam, I'll try & not be a stranger: I have a few things cookin' on the burner...though they sometimes get moved to the back-burner.

Good to see you still around & mixing Gene. Particularly like the Deru, O Yuki, Torn & Jelinek here.

Your time away has done nothing to diminish the quality of your mixes.
