Comment:
my 7th and 8th grade mixes were created 4 years ago, posted on AotM 2 years ago, and are now also available for listening. together, these three mixes form a collection of singles by female vocalists I was crazy about in junior high. though I was also a big fan of Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, Berlin, Tom Tom Club, Scandal, etc., the songs/artists here are some of the "squarer" ones that, along with my late '70s hairstyle and wardrobe at the time, made me the opposite of popular at school. some of the songs are still pretty awesome in my opinion [Laura Branigan, Stevie Nicks, Nicolette Larson, Eye to Eye tracks, for example], but others here now seem indefensibly awful [Robey, Irene Cara, Juice Newton tracks and Sheena Easton's "Devil In a Fast Car," for example]. since I was a card-carrying member of the Sheena Easton International Fan Club (see pic), I've decided to include three of her songs on the mix. inspired by RetroJoe, I've included each song's year of release and peak chart position on the US Billboard Hot 100. ps. my soul has been sold. thanks, g.a.b. l@bs.listen to side

Feedback:
This music might be corny now, but oh how I wish I'd been a high-schooler in the early '80s...I still jones for Kim Carnes, Juice Newton, and Melissa Manchester. Thanks especially for the links; now I can further my ascension to '80s music expert :)
awkward!
Thank the lord I was too old to have been into these femmes!
You must be psychic, Alex, was just about to put Madge, LaToya, Kim and Donna on a mix myself. The 80s were the peak of pop!
Gosh...sold your soul? (I hope you got a good price). ;- ]
An' while I don't know much about selling souls.I DO have a devil of a time cramming all the minutes of sound I'd like onto my mixes as of late (thank goodness the segues shave 20 to 30 seconds off here & there).
Anyways.9th grade for me was all about Robert Fripp (that's really wot began all the trouble: hand crafted cassette mix covers, copious liner notes, etc.), David Bowie, Adrian Belew, a little bit of Led Zeppelin, cross country races and...

girls! (thus there are certain aspects of Sheena Easton I, uhm.appreciated).

Yikes! The memories! Fell in love for the first time dancing to "Lovergirl" at a youth group lock-in... Thanks for the flashback.
While I love women, the eighties are not my thing (thought my son wants me to make him an eighties mix). That said Olivia can get "Physical" with me and Stevie can dance for me anytime, anyplace.
This is terrible, and you should be ashamed of yourself. Donna Summer featuring Musical Youth? Yuk. And who IS this Robey lass? Everyone knows 'One Night In Bangcock' was by Murray Head.. Don't they? And Tane Cain? That's a dumb name. really dumb.
But Wait!!@%$~~@ú You were part of the Sheena Easton fanclub? Amazing, so was I! Actually, I lied about that last bit. And the first bit. I'm a closet 80s fan. And I love Madonnas early work...

Eek! ;-) Actually, I like that Madonna song and (yes, I admit it) kind of like the Stevie Nicks track. I can't back you up on the rest, though, even though I was in junior high at that time, as well... That said, this is a ballsy and fun exercise.
Irene Cara! (I so wanted to go to the Fame High School, unfortunatey I was in college at the time.) The Madonna, Diana and Stevie I like....
Will, since this was so confessional for you I'll come out and say that I was part of the MC Hammer fan club! Point and laugh!
Anyway, can't say I like any of this. Not that I'm against popular female singers, but I absolutely hate popular female singers from the mid-80s! This painful to listen to. But for what it serves, great mix! (Glad I discovered music in 1989!).

Well, i've read through this track list several times now , and I have to tell you, There's nothing on here that I ever want to hear again in my lifetime. But , Gods bless you for putting it up here , that takes courage. I remember the 80's. for me it was all Black Flag, Minor Threat and 7 Seconds, later, The Fuzztones and the Chesterfield Kings.
Salman has out-nerded you at the eleventh hour! No mean feat on this evidence. I found it to be a hilarious trip down memory lane even though it does predate my most toe-curling eighties memories by a few years. Many new cringe making moments to me, I salute you sir. You are twisted in the best possible way.
I cannot believe you were not popular.
These songs are not quite my cup of ginseng, but I do see that you have adopted the Retro Joe notation style - good research.

It was all Iron Maiden posters, tshirts and cassettes round here. I'll still happily blast out 'The Number of the Beast'. Some things just don't go away...
Congrats for opening up and revealing your nerdish tendencies. At least one guilty pleasure of my own is revealed here (Magic by Olivia).
Anything with the Juice is automatically great. I love the Quarterflash song too - my mom had the 45 till I stole it. And now thanks to you I can't listen to "All Time High" without thinking of the guy who ends his name with a Q. Here's a clue.
this reminds me of another mix idea i had -- an "oldies" mix with stuff from my college days...as in 2001. but these songs are much better!
