Comment:
This is a re-working of my Scott Walker mix from 2001, focussing on the first four years of his career, 1965-1969 (from the first run of the Walkers through his masterpiece, Scott 4) . At the time that I originally assembled this mix, this period was the only one that I loved. As this attitude has since changed (particularly with regard to Tilt and his newest work, The Drift), I'll most likely be putting together a second volume covering 1970 to the present. In the meantime, I can't say enough about how much I love these songs and can't stress enough that there were some tough cuts made, particularly in the case of "Hero of the War" and "The Lady Came from Baltimore."Feedback:
Masterful stuff, indeed. But where's, harumph, "Joanna"? And "Lights of Cincinnati"?
The opening two are "hall-of-fame" tracks.
I really would kill to hear this right this minute. The communal work radio is playing James Blunt as I type and it really is the final straw. Oh my kingdom for headphones and a link to Scott. Well played Rob.
I've been spinning your original take on this alot lately. Thinkin' I need to pick up "Scott 4" in the very near future.
never really gave him much of a chance, but this certainly entices me...maybe i'll have to give him a spin
I paid ú40 for a vinyl copy of Scott 4 some 15 years ago and I think I got a bargain. His newest stuff seems to owe a little too much to Einsturzende Neubauten, with that voice you sometimes long for him to do a classy ballad of the Brel type. If you had stuck to his solo career you could have added Copenhagen and Funeral Tango,I rate them as essential but this is still an excellent mix.
if a link was to magically appear i would be all over this. thanks!
Genius.
As Sam said, Mathilde works every time pour moi.
I'm ashamed to even admit it, but this is some much-needed musical education for me. Thanks, Rob.
I have to also confess to my ignorance. Thanks, though, Rob.
Not too familiar with these Walkers, but I do really, really like track 2 on this. I'll dig further into there discography.
Took me a while to really get into him. The voice seemed so 'over the top'. It almost seemed like a goof. But now I get the appeal, and I'm in the cult, too.
It turns out your prediction that I would LOVE Scott Walker was absolutely correct. I think I liked the material from Scott 2 the most, and the Walker Brothers not quite as much as the solo stuff, but really, this was all great. Thanks again!
Scott's a dude, for sure. Anything involving 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' gets my vote but great stuff all the way. Look forward to seeing the late period mix. Good for scaring the kids.
"The seventh seal" and "The old man's back again" are such great songs! I would include "Time Operator", one of my favourite songs of all time.
