Comment:

Here is a shot at trying to make a mix highlighting Paul McCartney's solo material from the last ten years. I only have one friend who I can actually talk about these albums with so I felt like I should make a mix for anyone who isn't familiar with his latest work. I think Paul is still making great albums. He still writes beautiful songs and can still rock. He even gets weird and experimental at times. When I first got into the Beatles around the time when Paul made Flaming Pie, I didn't listen to much Beatle Solo material besides John's "Double Fantasy" and Paul's albums as they came out from then on. For some reason I didn't listen to much besides that. I think (even though it was the 90's) I was not capable of listening to post-Beatle material because I couldn't see past the Beatle's work. I think I was also sad the Beatles ended. Listening to a solo Beatle was like listening to a song you used to listen to with an ex-girlfriend within the year you broke up. Does this make sense? Anyways, I can now fully love and listen to all of the Beatles material and acquiring it all one by one. How this mix was made: I went through all four albums picking what I thought was the best. I then went through what I had and made an edit to fit on a mix cd. It just so happened that all of the albums were represented equally with five songs each. If I had to pick a favorite, it might be "Mr. Bellamy" for it's weirdness, beautiful intro and outro and a solid piano line. The mix is chronological by album, but the song orders have changed for flow.

This is interesting to me because I really listened to anything by him since his 70's work.

Likewise, I've been pretty oblivious of Paul's post-Wings material; what I've heard hasn't held much interest, aside from the occasional song (though "Take It Away" is the only one I can remember); might have to check it out.
