nina simone is one of my very, very, very favorite vocalists... period. she can make me laugh, cry, and angry as hell. for me her voice is only matched by billie holiday. nina can sing it all. ballads, protest songs, uptempo, soul, jazz, rock, folk, and even standards accompanied by orchestra. many of these songs have helped soothe troubled times for me, and i can't imagine there ever being a time that i don't want to hear her. There is a weight to her voice, but it's comforting, like a blanket. curl up.
