Comment:

A mix containing some the best tunes in my head at the moment.. I've tried many a time to fit that opener onto a mix, each time to no avail, so I decided to start this mix with it, and see where it led me. Tracks here include my favourite Kinks song. My second favourite Prince song ( after the title track of the album it's lifted from ), and a Japanese act named Les 5-4-3-2-1, with a track that is suspiciously similar to Stereolab's classic `Ping Pong'..
So. What's in the Box? Well, the Download link for this mix is for a start. But there's much, much more. Hopefully enough to delight everyone here on Art Of The Mix. To unlock the box be the first to answer this question'..
`What connects all the tracks in the 16 - 22 run of this mix'? Be the first to answer correctly and the Key is yours, and all the wonders inside will be freed. Sam
UPDATE --- That Krazy Kat Karen proves she's also a Klever Kitten. She got the answer correct ( maybe after a little clue, who knows ). But she's opened the box.. And inside was a Download link to every mix I've ever posted. For a limited time? No, forever, and that's a long time. So happy browsing guys & girls, I hope you all find something that appeals..

I might have guessed LSD but Robert Wyatt is strictly anti drugs so dunno, someone enlighten me. Great mix and a fantastic closer.

Delightful. Simply delightful...but no link....nawh. :(Answer: There all fine tunes on a typically tremendous sammyg123 mix. Hand it over. You know I'm right. Anyone disagree? Hmmm....doubtful

I haven't heard that Number One Cup track for ages! What a great mix. And I've always loved "Endless Art" too.

hard to comprehend how consistently brilliant your mixes have been lately, sammy - this one is no different - love the prince & kinks tracks especially - funny enough, that prince song is probably my number one favorite of his (or perhaps tied with "if i was ur girlfriend")

I guess I don't feel so bad at my cluelessness here either. But I'll check back to see if the link is uncovered...

This isn't my genre Sam...

...but does the connection revolve around memories of a love that could have been...& not being sure where the relationship is/was headed?

16-22 all feature a harmonica solo, are all in the key of G and all bear lyrical similarity to Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." Finally, I win something around here!

What? That's not right? Bummer.

This is absolutely fantastic, esp that Kinks track (one of my few favorites by them, as well), the 18-23 run, and that Zappa track (my favorite by him). I have no idea what the connection is, though.

Newbie here - discovered the site about a month ago.

One thing that comes to mind: rain lyrics...

Nancy Sinatra - Flowers in the Rain
GNR - November Rain
Cowsills - Rain, the Park & Other things
WSC - Dead Kid Town ("Fill our bottles in the rain...")
Caravan - in the land of grey and pink ("Don't leave your dad in the rain")
Robert Wyatt - September in the Rain
Hem - Rainy Night in Georgia

Or, it could be a GNR thing.

A mix packed to the brim with amazing tunes! Number One Cup, Cowsills, Lobsters, Kinks, Chills -- but where's that Boo Radleys' song? (I think you know the one I mean). As for the question, the answer is painfully obvious -- but I've been winning so many quizzes on the site lately, that I'll do everyone else a favor and refrain from submitting a response. Good luck guys!

I thought coming to the party so late here that I would see what's in the box. No such luck. Well, lots of great picks here throughout.

the mix looks great! as for the answer to your quiz i have to guess. maybe it's that all the songs have been released on more than one album? (for example "betting on trains" on "rabbit songs" and "no word from tom", "breaking the dawn" on "washington social club" and "catching looks", "shrinkrap" on "dondestan" and "dondestan revisited") nah, probably not ;-)

OK, well some 24 hours in & nobody's got close. g.a.b. l@bs, your answer was beautiful, but incorrect. fatbastard, don't put yourself down. But no, the answer is nothing to do with rain. Or indeed Guns N Roses(?!). >toxotronic<, great answer but, no.
Obviously, I'd like people to hear this mix before interest dwindles, so that's up now. But the box remains unopened. I thought Rob or Ion may have got the answer (hint)..

Do all of the tracks (16-22) feature backwards recording? Or do they all feature a harp?

I'm not good at games like these. I usually just keep kicking the box until one of the sides breaks and the stuff inside falls out. I'm still curious, but meanwhile I'll be enjoying these many treasures. the 3->6 run was my favorite, along with the Zappa, King Creosote and Kate Nash songs. also really like the Brian Jonestown Massacre tune at the end.

Hmmm, I may begrudgingly open the box myself, before everyone stops caring. If indeed anyone ever did, ha ha. Sometime over the weekend probably. In the meantime, one more clue... the connection isn't anything to do with the songs themselves, rather what connects them to this site..

Hmmm, songs that were previously featured in sammyg123 alt-mixes: Washington Social Club (Dead Man); The Sights (Moe); Robert Wyatt (Rob Conroy); Hem (New Leaf All-Stars), etc. Hocus-Cadabra and Open Sesame! [Adding five-stars]
Uh, hello? Why won't this fooker open?!?!?
