Comment:
The redneck series takes on the Nacoville Sound (naco in the gringo sense, not the paisano sense, eh Victor?).Not all of it follows the same path, but a very wise man once said not to expect anything in this life to be consistent, least of all mixtapes.
Thanks to RetroJoe for the Little Green Apples inspiration.
Feedback:
very nice!
There are tons of great songs here, most of which are not cheesy at all. "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and Gram's version of "Love Hurts" are two of my all-time favorite tunes by anyone, and "Delta Dawn" (at least by Tanya Tucker and not Helen Reddy), "Galveston," the Patsy Cline songs, "A Better Man," "Losing My Touch," "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know," Elvis' "Always on My Mind," "Blue Skies"... etc., etc. ... are all great.
Galveston, Make the World Go Away, Stand by Your Man, If I Were A Carpenter, Crazy, Little Green Apples, Yesterday When I Was Young, I Dreamed of a Hillbilly Heaven, I Can't Stop Loving You, are all stand out tracks.
Nicely done!
Brilliant, Derek. I love this Redneck series. Gonna give this a big fat listen this evening. Love the Prine, Cline, Parsons etc..
you've proven that this well can be endlessly minded until the end of time & never get old - fantastic cuts all around
This is brilliant, and that cover.....cheese never looked so good !
i dig it, a lot.
i would have to cut out the bj thomas to lynn anderson section but all the patsy more than makes up for it.
Tom, Rhinestone Cowboy was one of the last to keep and for purely sentimental reasons. It brings me right back to playing table shuffleboard as a youngun' at Pantera's Pizza. I agree it is the schlockiest of Glen's hits (hence the nature of the mix). And the others, well, that was to bridge from Bob to the Butlers. I'll be returning to more gutbucket country in future edititions. This started as a way to work Always on my mind, I can't stop loving you, Some memories just won't die and I've forgot more than you'll ever know into the redneck series.
Another winner!
Mmmmm .... Cheese! Lotsa great stuff, Little Green Apples and Misty are favorites from my youth that I haven't thought about in decades.
This is THICK! Its blowing my mind as I type...
