Comment:
Thanks to the suicide of Ian Curtis, these guys are seriously deified and overanalyzed, so I'll spare AotMers a re-cap of their career. I do, however, really love this band and this (VERY substantially changed) re-make of my original comp from 4.5 years ago was very difficult to finish. Last tracks cut (with immense hesitation): "New Dawn Fades," "From Safety to Where...?", "Insight", "Ice Age", and "Decades."Feedback:
Yeah, there is a lot of hype, but I'm looking forward to a possible download?
While I am indifferent to Joy Division, I do like Warsaw and Love Will Tear Us Apart. I guess it is too much gloom and doom.
Great overview of a great band.
Lord Warsaw brings back memories saw em quite by accident when I was just a kid. Joy Division are massively over-rated in my book but I do acknowledge they had a few great tunes.
one of my very favorite & the very best bands from the whole post-punk explosion - honestly, can anyone name more than a handful of singles from the era more transcendental than "love will tear us apart"? a bit sad to see "no love lost" didn't make the cut though. this does, however, amp me up even more for the new ian curtis biopic (control)...
I've mentioned it before, but 'Atmosphere' is probably my favourite song of all time. Meaning if someone stopped me on the sree and randomly asked me that question, that track would be the first I'd think of. The rest... just as wonderful. Fine mix, fine band..
Glad someone still cares about Joy Division! I love this band -- great mix!
Oddly enough, I was listening to my own (almost entirely overlapping with yours) Joy Division mix last night. Overrated? Not by a long shot. One of the few acts worthy of the legend. I would have had a hard time cutting "Decades," one of the most haunting songs ever recorded, and I have a spot in my heart for Warsaw's "No Love Lost," but this pretty much nails it. A fine document to get you warmed up for the two (2) new Joy Divisions making the rounds.
Great songs, great band, but yup, they're (unjustly) deified and overvalued. Now- *New Order*, now, they were truly gods...
Yeah, great band. I rarely listen to these guys anymore, but, once in a while, usually in the fall, I'll pull out the albums and indulge. I'm not so sure about this new movie about them, basically because of the same things you mention in your comments. I'll still probably see it though.
Swoon. Joy Division were THE post punk band. Whenever I felt down I'd put on Unknown Pleasures, it always cheered me up. Doom and gloom.....but just listen to those basslines, don't you want to dance?
And lyrically they were so different, so interesting. I'll never get over the disappointment of not seeing them at the Nashville, the place was full and we were about 20 from the front of the queue before they refused to let anyone else in.
New Order pale in comparison, especially deficient lyrically. This mix is a splendid tribute to one of the greatest bands in history. Oh and I want to have Love Will Tear Us Apart as my first dance when I get married.

Joy Division was great, if not celestial. But this mix is both.
One of my favorite bands.
This is briliant!
