Comment:
For those of you who, while reading the notes for my last mix, thought to yourself: "So what were those debut LP 1st tracks that had been used on RetroJoe's previous mixes?" Here is the answer (27 of the 33 tracks referred to earlier are used here).Tracks that weren't used this time include Splish Splash by Bobby Darin, House of the Rising Sun by the Animals, A Summer Song by Chad & Jeremy, Cleo's Mood by Jr Walker & The All Stars, The Letter by The Box Tops, and Radio Free Europe by R.E.M. Ones that weren't used on the prior mix include: Back Up Train by Al Green, 007 (Shanty Town) by Desmond Dekker, Soul Rebel by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand) by Diana Ross, Monday, Monday by The Mamas & Papas, My Sunday Feeling by Jethro Tull, You Really Got me by Mott the Hoople, On the Street Where You Live by Nancy Wilson, Honeycomb by Ricky Nelson, Sweets for My Sweet by The Searchers, Slow Down by The Young Rascals, Grizzly Bear by The Youngbloods, (Somebody Else Been) Shaking Your Tree by ZZ Top, and Faith by George Michael. In this mix I put the songs in order by LP issue date (except for 1965, where two of the three LPs had only the issue year known. The picture is of Martha & The Vandellas who I feel steal the show with their "Heat Wave" (track 8). The average peak year for the mix is 1966.1 with a mean of 1967.0 And the average chart ranking for the 25 songs that where in the Billboard Top 100 came out to 18.1Feedback:
Love personal hall of famers Green Onions, (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave, Not Fade Away, For What It's Worth, Woman, Woman, I Put A Spell On You, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man (I can't believe that album is out of print!) It's a Shame, I'll Be Good To You. Excellent job R.J.
21-23 stand out and rock and roll, hoochie koo takes me back to my youth.
Absolutely amazing, love this all the way through. (Interestingly, just watched "High Fidelity" again and thought of your mix when the Side 1 Track 1 discussion began.)
