Comment:

This is an mix I make annually in accordance with a challenge set down by my bro (who btw mixes as comebackshane). It's designed to reload your listening habits when it comes to an iPod, and start fresh every year. The formula is thus: rank your songs in order of playcount. Without grabbing two tracks from the same artist, take the 20 highest played tracks and there's your mix! Then, reset the playcount on all the tracks and do it again same time next year. I'm a little amused by my heavy rotation...surprised that Rilo got so many spins in six weeks, confused at how Bob got so many on that particular song, and thankful that I'm putting Amy and Lily out to pasture for a while. So here we have my twenty most played (with playcounts in parenthesis) for most of 2007. Cheers! -Famous.

I'm enjoying the new Rilo Kiley too, but I truly hate that single of theirs. Reminds me way too much of Weezer's execrable "Beverly Hills". But anyway yeah, playcounts! I love fiddling with those. I never actually reset them, though, because I'm on a mission to find out what songs will be my most played by the end of my life (or the iPod's life), for those may truly be my favorite songs and there are already plenty of surprises. Anyway, I couldn't seem to get enough of "Phantom Limb" earlier this year, either. And good stuff with Orson, White Stripes, Violent Femmes (not just one of their popular ones, either - nice), Dramarama, Arcade Fire, and the rest ain't bad either. I admire your patience in making this - I couldn't possibly wait a whole year to update this challenge. I'd cut it down to 6 months, and then probably just start going month to month even though the changes would be unnoticeable. I'm a list junkie. Well, we'll meet again under this topic in 2008, I suppose - good luck!

I tend to agree with Mike about the Rilo song being like the Weezer song - but it's still pretty darn catchy! I also agree with him on not reseting my play count - I like watching the meteoric rise of certain tracks and charting their downfall once I'm through with them. Like "Call to Love" from Crooked Fingers was one of the top 3 songs played for the longest time - now it's slowly dying barely staying on the to 50... So sad! Then the run away favorite of "Everyone Alive" from Local H at 150 total plays beating out #2 Ryan Adams "Let it Ride" at 100 plays... What happened that the H has so many more plays? I know I went through a phase a few month ago - but c'mon 150 plays? Okay this is turning into a blog... Nice mix, bro - Love the Lou Reed, Arcade Fire and Muse tracks!

Perfect Day 37 times. Wow, you have enormous stamina. When they made a horrible charity record out of it and it was played everywhere some years back it ruined it for me.I know I'll play it again but not until 2015.Winehouse song hasn't quite worn me out yet but Razorlight I would delete from existence. Most of this is good though.

Good mix, man. Some overlap with mine and yours, both feeling the love for 'Keep the Car' and 'Black Flowers', while choosing different tunes by Midlake. I won't out you on the real reason that Femmes tune is there, but if Mike is still reading this: 'how will you know where things stand at the end of your iPod's life? what if it just dies one day? Then you'll be left with no closure! I like the year-by-year cleansing. Great tunes, good times. My 20 is up, do check out!!
