Comment:

Disc 2 of my triple-disc chronological Purple One anthology, motivated by my dissatisfaction with my single-disc comp that I did six years ago (and which is now deleted). Originally, I thought everything would fit on two discs, but I was wrong. Prince is someone that I don't think about as often as I should, mostly due to his annoying personal eccentricities. That said, he certainly was one of modern music's real visionaries--a guy who really created his own style of music. In order to include more songs, I did some judicious editing, cutting the two-plus-minute orchestral ending of the album version of "Purple Rain" (replacing it with a long fade and cutting the song from nearly 9 minutes to 6:21) and the two-plus-minutes of noodling that begins "Condition of the Heart" (cutting the song from 6:49 to 4:44). Last tracks cut from this volume: "Paisley Park", "Computer Blue", "I Would Die 4 U", "Take Me with U" and "America." Special thanks to Karen for "Sometimes It Snows...."

This is definitely the disc of the three that hits the pocket with me but excellent effort across the board.

I would also say that When Doves Cry is my favorite Prince song, one of my favorite songs, period (to quote Rafael Palmeiro).

Thank U 4 Re-designing my world in purple, paisley and peach 'n' black, brother Rob! Great tunes with new fade points and good last track cuts. "Anotherloverholenyohead" is 2 damned funky 4 words. Glad 2 C this 1 here with "Sometimes It Snows..." Happy 2 help out.

Glad you managed to find the tracks. I was a bit slow on that one but did have them.. Sometimes It Snows in April is one of my all time favourite tracks full stop let alone by Prince. 1,4(obviously),7 & 14 are my picks of this disc..

Okay, I wrote this to Rob, and I wasn't going to mention it here, but since Sammy had his bit on the REM, I am going to share a bit of what Prince brings back from the past for me: I was editor (and music editor) of my high school paper and I think I reviewed 3 Dylan-related albums that year (Down in the Groove, Dylan and the Dead, Traveling Wilburys), but the guy who was kind of my "understudy", a Sophomore when I was a Senior, was a total Prince Freak. He also would have made me a lot "hipper" back then if I had let him really introduce me to XTC, Sugarcubes, New Order, etc., but while he was watching 120 minutes on MTV, I was content listening to endless loops of Hwy 61 in my basement in the dark. Ni modo (oh well). He and I used to have the typical music-geek conversations about Prince being the Dylan of his generation and "anybody who wrote Clothes Line Saga had to be a genius". When we released our Top Ten albums of the year, it was so silly, one doowad, one Don, one doowad, one Don, New Order, Dylan, Prince, Dylan, Sugarcubes, Wilburys, then we agreed with Rattle and Hum number one. Since I've babbled on this long, I might as well mention that I proceeded to get myself banned from the paper one issue for referring to the "dweebs jacking off to Guns N' Roses should listen to the live version of Bullet the Blue Sky". I tried to explain to the Principal that jacking off was not meant to be taken literally, but to no avail.

THIS IS SUCH A SMART THING TO DO IN MANY CASES. Sometimes it is all that is necessary to recontemporize tunes as opposed to remixing them.

Love the reworking of Purple Rain (album and track) - I've been touched by the Purple One on many an occasion.
