A friend asked me to compile a mix of 'psychedelic rock' and insisted on the paramters remaining ambiguous - the interpretation was entirely up to me.

First I put together a disc called 'Acid Candy', which collects all my favourite garage pysche tracks - but it borrow heavily from the Nuggets compilations and no one needs another rehashing of that on here, eh?
The second disc, I felt, had to oppose the first, but in a complimentary way. No more short and sweet catchy tunes, 'Mushroom Mind Melters' is all about sprawling, soaring guitar magic. Now, I know that we could talk all day about what could have gone on here, but for an 80-minute CD-R, this is what I finally came up with. The Hendrix and Funkadelic inclusions may appall some experts, but I just had to do it - 'Maggot Brain' is essentially an Eddie Hazel song, and one of the greatest solos of all time at that. And I always thought Hendrix was at his best with instrumentals that never had a chance in the top 40.
Coincidentally, my friend is currently between jobs and has a big bucket of magic mushrooms. It'll be interesting to see what happens!
