Comment:

Yeah, you know that beat. The one that gets you all jittery inside. It's been done before, but I'd like to think this is as close to definitive as I could get, drawing from a broad spectrum of sounds (and thus overlooking a lot of older tunes and Diddley covers). Even so, I'm hoping for a couple suggestions, as I'm tempted to drop Steve Miller (a bit redundant of the Traffic tune) and maybe Tom Petty (got the beat, but maybe too subtle for the overall vibe of the mix).
NOTE: After listening through this, I ended up editing "How Soon Is Now" to lop off the last minute and a half (7 minutes of that song can really kill the momentum here), which freed up some space for the addition of a track I'd omitted, Donovan's "Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness)."

I've long thought of doing something like this, but keep forgetting to actually see it through. This is really a great idea and a great disc.

You da Diddley daddy, definitely!
Bo's beat is everywhere, how can you resist it, but I think you've got the definitive examples. How about some Johnny Otis, though, for volume two?

there's a million ways this could have gone wrong but you've sidestepped every one of them & have come up with one of the best theme mixes i've seen on this site. this is absolutely fantastic - the bo original (of course), the whole 2-9 stretch, the bowie, smiths, springsteen, elvis, stooges, petty...can i please get a copy of this? i'd be willing to trade anything i have - this is amazing.

Yeah ! The Diddley daddy ! This is just perfect, serious rock & roll. The only suggestion I could make would be "I Want Candy" by The Strangeloves. There used to be a local all girl band around these parts that used to play that, and it always brought the house down.

Duh , I just noticed that you have the Bow Wow Wow version up there. So there you have it. It's a great song. Congrats on a great mix and on mix of the week.

Congratulations! Great idea, brilliantly executed! I've actually been thinking a lot about Bo lately. The (promo only, I think) compilation "Bo Diddley Is a Songwriter" has some great versions of his songs, by the way.

Always wanted to do this - super great. So many tracks I'd never even thought about in their Diddley-ness. I guess I usually think of the Stones/Pretty Things vein of covers.

Oh, man, you beat me to it! I've been yearning to do this mix for ages, except I wanted to dig further back to Africa for the universal hambone, then on to Bo and beyond. Great stuff -- I thought, at first glance, this would have been a single artist project, but nice to see you went the other way with it.
