Comment:
Thursday marked my six year anniversary on AOTM. A lot happens in six years, as I realize when I look back through my mixes. My second mix ("I Don't Wanna Go to School!" December 2001) was a mix I submitted as part of my college applications. The following spring, I attended my senior prom ("Teenage Wasteland," August 2002), then went off to college (one of the colleges I'd sent my mix to). Then I had my first boyfriend ("Wait I Just Had a Thought..." January 2003), turned 20 ("For We Are Far Too Young and Clever," April 2004), moved to England for a year ("I Know It's Over, Still I Cling," May 2005), graduated college, got a full-time job, and moved to New York ("Your Ex-Lover Is Dead," March 2007).Six years is a long time to give to one website, but wherever I lived over the past six years (Boston, Chicago, Bristol, New York), and whatever I was doing, I have always been glad to have AOTM to turn to. It now provides an excellent chronicle of what I was feeling and thinking at various points in my life-- not to mention what music I was listening to.
So I'd like to take a moment to mark this six year anniversary. And what better way to mark absolutely any occasion than with a mix?
This particular mix is called "Falling Out of Love With You." I started it over the summer, when I was thinking about how many songs are written by people whose hearts have been broken. I wanted to focus on those songs where the protagonist is the one doing the heart-breaking. You know the song "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday"? Well, I wanted a mix of songs that were the opposite of that: "I love you less today than yesterday, but still twice as much as tomorrow."
From the Kaiser Chiefs singing, "Everyday I love you less and less," to Ryan Adams singing, "Think that I'm falling out of love with you," to Guillemots singing, "I could love you baby til the cows came home. What's that noise? Well, it's the cows knocking on our door," to Belle & Sebastian singing, "I'm waking up to us: We're a disaster," these are all songs that defend or bemoan falling out of love with your significant other. It can be interesting to see matters from the other point of view, sometimes.
But don't worry, AOTM, I'm not falling out of love with you! Thank you for six wonderful years. May we share many, many more!
Feedback:
Happy Anniversary! and can i just say: amAzing mix! my favorites being: 3-5, 9-11 & 15. beautiful!
Congratulations on 6 years. I don't know everything, but the Adams/Zevon twofer works for me.
Starts fabulosly and ends fabulously and inbetween is pretty good too. You've done a lot in 6 years, more than I have, but I did meet Kathryn and that's the best thing in many many years, which doesn't really suit the spirit of this fine mix.
6 years ! Crikey !The thought process here suits my warped sense of humour. Lots to enjoy here . . .
Happy anniversary, you newbie!
I think my DCFC recommendation fits better than Tiny Vessels. Just sayin' ;)

what a truly wonderful package - a fitting tribute to a great milestone, beautiful notes, clever theme, & tremendous song choices - what more could you want? love the 6ths, death cab, ryan adams, B&S, mag fields & joy division tracks especially.
Wow, six years. Amazing work.
Congrats on the anniversary, and I love the mix. The closer is the capper!
