Comment:
No frills mix here, folks -- nothing rare, nothing live, just the choicest tracks from the four fine studio albums from one of the more intriguing singer-songwriters around today. I'm not a huge fan of the first two, when Ritter was still trying to figure out whether he wanted to be Nick Drake, late 60s/early 70s Dylan, or pre-fame Springsteen. But he made a huge leap with 2006's fine Animal Years album, adding a slightly more rocking edge to his folkie lyricism. And then he put that one to shame with his best one yet, this year's outstanding Historical Conquests, filling out the open spaces with a tasteful 70's classic rock radio sound, kinda like Fleetwood Mac crossed with Bright Eyes. Given the huge leap in the pop quotient, I've got half of that album included here, but mixing things up with the earlier acoustic numbers keeps it varied.
Feedback:
Four albums already ! I must say I wrote him off years ago and haven't bothered listening to much since. I'll re-evaluate my opinion and give him another chance. The blurb that I have just seen about him on the old interweb makes him sound like quite a character.
i only know girl in the war from a hemizen mix and it's fantastic. would like to hear more.
Only familiar with Animal Years which I really like. Looking forward to checking out his most recent and picking up the older stuff.
I loved this guy in Three's Company...
No, that was Joyce DeWitter. Though the resemblance is uncanny.
