Comment:
in the midst of all the Pazuzu-mania last week, I found myself lying awake at night, wondering what it would be like to make a mix with the site's most notorious mixer. it would be like alt-DJing with O.J. Simpson... or Osama Bin Laden! so I asked him and he said yes, but he told me he didn't have any mp3s. instead, he sent me a list of 15 favorite songs to work with, and then I went out and found copies of them. our tastes are sorta different, so it was fun to look for stuff in my collection that would mix well with the tunes Darth Pazuzu provided. to be honest, I'm still not sure if putting Uba-Up between Guns n' Roses and Nirvana was such a good idea, but I think we can all agree that my expert mixing skills really came through for me there at the end, as I know for certain you will never hear anything more glorious than those final three tracks together, not anywhere ever. ;)listen to this thinghere.

Feedback:
Good on ya both !
Darth Pazuzu is a genius. He deserves a Mix of the Week.
my my this is interesting
Nice work guys. Alex are you the odds or evens?.... Love the commentary.
Well I luv that Slade song. Beatles, Nirvana, VU...brilliant. Disaster and Demon create wonderful musical mayhem.
Stunning. Like a Stainless Steel Olive Branch.
I'm kind of up in the air about many of the songs here. Love the Rennaissance and Slade and , of course the VU is classic. Good on you, for reaching out to a fellow mixxer who has become a bit of a pariah of late. You're an inspiration.
I agree with Skip and just wanted to say that I saw Slade and read Slayer (+por quT serß?). Mistakes happen, the concept and execution of this mix is no mistake. Nice job, guys.
Quite an interesting push-and-pull of two distinct music tastes. The closing three does look rather compelling. Love the title and cover art too!
hemizen, my tracks are at the odd numbers, since it was pretty clear that the Who song had to end the mix. and Darth, "Thank you for the music," as they say in Sweden. it was a pleasure. I've now got a bunch of Renaissance LPs (hadn't heard them, and the dollar bins are full of 'em!) and nice vinyl copies of Quadrophenia and The White Album in my collection.
F Yeah!!!! Love the schizo nature of this. The transitions are...intriguing. And, that cover art. Oh my!!!!!
This mix strikes like an Assyrian Wind God spinning 400 miles an hour, wielding a light saber. Nice work, you two.
congrats on MOTW
this looks fricken amazing man
Hmm. Well, tornadoZ, I'm very familiar with your mixes and like them all. But who's this Pazuzu fella? His mixes must have passed me by.. Although judging by the tracks chosen I'd say you've both got fine, fine taste. I must look into his other mixes..
Congrats on MotW guys..
Congrats on MotW guys..
Love 7-10. PS OJ is innocent.
A brilliant idea.
A fun read (and, presumably, a fun listen). And, while I enjoy a jab at the frightfully prolific Pazuzu as much as the next guy, I have to confess that I'm far more familiar with his contributions to this mix. Great Beatles pick, great Velvets pick, one of the few Led Zep songs I'd go out of my way to play, and a closing track off my favorite Who album.
Mix Of The Week?! That never happened with any of mine! :( [*SIGH*] Oh well! :) I just gotta say that I'm genuinely intrigued by what tornadoZ has done with this mix. I must confess to being totally unfamiliar with any of his selections besides Slade's "Gudbuy T'Jane," but he's agreed to send me a copy of his mix to me in the mail, so I look forward to hearing the results. I'm sure this meshing together of our musical tastes will turn out to be a genuine treat! (Oh, and by the way, tornadoZ's songs are the odds and I'm the evens!)
Oh, I forgot to mention: That cover image is nothing short of totally awesome!! And really quite fitting when you think about it. After all, Pazuzu IS a diabolical wind spirit - and normal tornadoes are quite diabolical enough when they're not under the Evil One's influence! So that should tell ya something... ;)
Digging this concoction (sp?). Love that Nirvana track (reminds me of grade 8), as well as track 9. Great effort.
Mix Of The Week?! That never happened with any of mine either, Darth one. Oh well, back to the Mental drawing board. Good mix!
I was just kidding, Sister Zoe! :) :) :)
Wish I could come up with a clever analogy to describe this unsual collaboration between the prolific newbie and the eclectic veteran, but I'll just say fine work guys -- and congratulations on mix of the week.
I found this very amuzing, and congrats too as well
Well, tornadoZ was kind enough to send me a copy of the mix in the mail (first class!), so now I finally got the opportunity to listen to how our little collaboration turned out. And I'm truly impressed with the results, and with how his and my musical tastes rather seamlessly melded together! With the exception of the Slade number, I've actually never heard anything by any of tornadoZ's other eight picks, nor do I even really know all that much about the artists. I put off looking any of them up on the internet so I could offer up some of my own observations free of influence. 1) Murray Head - "She's Such A Drag": Kind of rootsy, kind of glammy. Reminds me a bit of late-period Mott The Hoople, especially with the female backup singers. 3) 50 Foot Wave - "Bone China": Rhythmically dexterous, aggressive yet melodic, kind of the artsier end of the punk spectrum. 7) Tindersticks - "Trouble Every Day": Melancholy, soulful and jazzy, kind of loungey but not cheesy! 9) Rubicon - "American Dreams": Feels like a quirkier strain of '70s FM radio rocker, with cool quotes from "Peter Gunn," "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic"! 11) Paris - "Starcage": Also kind of '70s-sounding, propelled by a synth riff and with a spacey sci-fi lyrical theme. 13) Uba-up - "Guano": Not quite sure what to make of this one. Kind of a novelty feel to this, with a vaguely scatological motif! And very brief, as well. 15) Starflyer 59 - "The Voyager": Has an early '90s, heavy psychedelic art-rock feel to it, with fuzzy guitar. 17) Shawn Phillips - "She Was Waitin' For Her Mother at the Station in Torino and You Know I Love You Baby But it's Getting Too Heavy to Laugh": A very emotional sort of singer-songwriter epic. It kind of reminds me of that Smiths song "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" (?); perhaps it's the chord sequence! It also makes a good bridge between the Velvets and Who songs. Anyway, I'd like to give a loud thanks to tornadoZ for introducing me to some cool stuff I'd never heard before, and I'm hoping that we can collaborate again sometime in the future! :) :) :)
