Comment:

Here is the 2nd half of the mix that sammyg123 and I collaborated on. In this mix Sam picks the odd numbers (whereas I picked the odd ones last time). As per sammyg's inspiration for the mix, he is choosing each track in line with the UK chart numbers (track 1 being a #1 hit and track 3 a #3 hit and so on) and I counter with the US even chart numbers. This one went a little smoother than the first one, perhaps because we'd already had a practice session with the first half. For both mixes I asked that we abide by a restriction of choosing only those songs that did better in our own country (so that each selection would be more representative of the taste of their individual country). Sometimes that made choosing a song that we liked best quite impossible and we would have to choose something less satisfactory to our personal taste (but in theory more in line with our country's personality). At times, because of the conditions, the songs pretty much picked themselves. If we do a similar mix in the future, it would probably be better to work within a larger range of years (perhaps a half decade such as 1965-69). Of course that would slow down the process, having nearly twice as many songs to sift through, but it would double the chances of finding a song that was both representative of our taste and our country's as well. For these mixes, I also picked the time period of 1973-75, which inadvertently put my co-mixer at a bit of a disadvantage (since during that time frame I was 18-20 years old and he wasn't even born yet). None-the-less, Sam came through in stellar fashion. It was an honor and privilege to work with him. This mix clocks in at 69m07s (the first mix was about 7 minutes longer). As usual, you can access the mix by clicking the link on the first song title. Oh, and this is truly my first alternating DJ mix. I collaborated on a couple of mixes with the Wonder Years series, but then I sent a bunch of songs and they worked whichever ones they thought best wherever they felt it was best to use them. So thanks Sam, for the idea and invitation to do these mixes! It was an interesting experiment and hopefully we can try it again sometime... After the country's chart position (that matches the track number) I give the chart position for the opposite country if it was in the top 100 in the US or the top 40 in the UK.

Blockbuster should have been a, er, blockbuster in the US but then Overnight Sensation should have been an, er, overnight sensation in the UK. Hey Joe, I found a Sailcat LP in a charity shop but I didn't buy it but at least someone bought their stuff here in the UK.

This is wonderful! Anything with The Spinners, Albert Hammond, Fox, and The Three Degrees is a winner in my book... and I love that Tom T. Hall song.

I love coffee in a cup, little fuzzy pups and hay... and of course I love music when it's good. but how much joy and pleasure can one mix bring? I liked this even more than the other set! just picked up that Fancy 7" the other week; others that got me going here are Raspberries (with that amazing coda!), Bobby Goldsboro, Pete Wingfield, Sweet, BT Express, Slade, Fox, The Three Degrees... but that Tom T. Hall song really takes the cake. with so many self-imposed limitations, this is really impressive, guys. terrific effort and an incredible mix.
