Comment:

Last year I submitted a mix covering similar sonic terrain in anticipation of Julian Cope's book. Having now read it, here is my attempt at a companion soundtrack. I had planned on writing some information about the artists, but this site explains it all better than I could.

'Far Out' and 'Mental' were just two of the many thoughts reeling around my head as I listened to this mix. Enjoyed Love Live Life + One, Acid Seven Group, Magical Power Mako to name but 3. The Masayuki Takayanagi was pretty tough going, but on the whole a great experience...

Cool. Don't know much of anything here, but my aunt was a groupie for the Far East Family Band back in the day. You wouldn't believe some of the stories about the freaky things those guys wanted to do. Anyway, gotta give this a listen...

No,no,I don't want to get into Japrock as I fear it will cost me a fortune to collect....I'm still trying to clog the gaps in my punk/indie/C86/sunshine pop/powerpop collections.....go away you Japs and take your intriguing music with you.

Like Kathryn and Rupert say ! I cannot afford another musical investigation ! I'd nominate this for mix of the week right now - if nothing else, than for it's long lasting impact.

By the way, YAY to Julian Cope as well . . . what a boy !

is it too late to cast my vote for Mix of the Week? great stuff, lo-fi, with my favorites the Datetenryu track and everything from Taj Mahal Travellers to Yonin Bayashi. I'd have to agree with Sam on the Masayuki Takayanagi, etc. track, but my #1 pick here is that amazing Acid Seven Group number. really cool stuff, thanks for sharing it. and happy New Year, by the way.
