Gone To Bull Moose Vol. 1/Christmas Mix for Dad 2007
Comment:
For the third time in the past two months, I have gone to my local record store to trade in cds in trade for credit for vinyl. This has been hard for me to do because I cherish all my music and hate to see it go. There are many cds I'd never get rid of (cd only releases, bonus songs, bands I absolutely love like the Beatles) but there are some that aren't necessary too keep. I do keep the mp3's so it's like I'm loosing nothing. Either I have or can get them on vinyl for cheap or they sound bad on cd and great on vinyl (Country Joe and the Fish). This round was the hardest, getting rid of Steely Dan, Police and the Stones. My first round was very easy and I will post some mixes I made from them soon. Most of these songs are from what I'm about to go trade. I decided to make this mix for my father for Christmas. I made 3 mixes for him already and might post them. What's not on the mix but will soon be gone: Creedence's "Green River", Cream's "Disraeli Gears" and Joni Mitchell's "For the Roses". The Foxboro Hot Tubs is something I just downloaded for free from their website. My father likes Green Day so I threw it on there. I'm not super proud of the mix itself but I'll give it to anyone who wants it. Enjoy.
Feedback:
With my use of iTunes, MP3s, Digitial Downloads, I've somehow forgotten how wonderful an actual CD can sound. Strapping on my high end headphones and a SACD Player and wowza. And, I've still haven't invested on a much delayed inclusion of a Rega Turntable. You're notes as to how a song can sometimes only be appreciated with proper fidelity have much truthiness. That...and the lustful eyes I have towards that record collection depicted....Having said all that, those are some classic recordings. The opening and closing tracks and albums REALLY need to be paid the proper revist by me...SOON. Wonderul stuff.
I agree about the CD sound. There are lots of cds that sound better than records. Some records weren't made that well. Regardless, it comes down to wanting more music. Although I love mp3's and its access to so much music so quickly, I always prefer to have the album with all its art and bulk. I'm glad you enjoyed the music. It's interesting how music that you have heard so much can sound fresh again when you haven't heard it for years. Last night I heard Kelly Joe Phelps and it sounded like I was going back in time into a previous life.
I've traded in cds to buy vinyl in the past, myself. I personally prefer vinyl for DJing. Call me old fashioned, bit with vinyl I can actually "see" the song as it's playing. Don't get me wrong, I also use cds and my ipod to DJ on occasion but watching those digital numbers count down as I'm cuing up the next song makes me nervous. It's like a time bomb in a bond movie or something.
I will always pick vinyl over CD. I think vinyl has a richer sound. And I'm with Skipper B. regarding DJing. Somehow vinyl is far more substantial. Good to see Miss You on here.
Viva le vinyl!
